i do say drop your prices a bit :p but just to say way flame on vertigo becase he has his own style off making sigs . his signatures are good .
Most on here can learn a thing or two from him . So why flame ? learn from the members on here . if you dont like his sig keep it in pm or dont talk at all . as he said he would not die if people would not vote for him . i would not to . its a competition that people enter in there own way . if you dont like it then why enter sotw ?

I personally agree with you completely,Designers/Artists all have their own taste, and nobody really knows the work they put into their projects.

Everyone has the mindset that Vert is the best designer on NGU just because he has overpriced material. :n:

Daisho, you got this man :y:

I think Vert's design is the best because it is the best for the purpose required. Take a look at all of the entries and tell me which one - if placed on the forums' homepage - would grab your attention the most.

Big, bold lettering; sharp lines and bright colors; good contrast and a clean, finished look. Those are all going to help catch and keep a reader's attention, and it just LOOKS the biggest out of all of the entries. For the purpose of a button to attract attention of non-Premium members, without detracting from the overall look of the forums, Vert's design is bar-none the best in this competition. If I were the site's owner, I would use his no matter who wins this week's voting.

Also, I'm not on these forums nearly enough to think one person's art is better than another's because of the person behind the art, and even if I did I wouldn't let that sway my judgement. The only person who I could never vote against is myself, and I still do it because I know I'm not the best. And Taco, but he's just a nut.

I might have just gotten the wrong impression with Vert, and I'm sorry...

That's understandable, it's natural. It happens with a lot of phenomena - take the Twilight saga of pop culture, for instance.

Most people don't realize that the first book came out in 2005, the height of the Harry Potter craze. Twilight was barely scratching the surface of the fame it would later garner, and most readers of good or even decent literature didn't even know the book existed, let alone give a damn about it. But when the book gained its fame, and people started realizing how crappy it was, a lot of the people who had been indifferent to it became vehemently against it because they just couldn't understand how anyone could even read the horrible writing, let alone LIKE it.

This same thing happens on a much smaller level a whole hell of a lot more than you'd think. Next time you feel yourself angry at someone or something or why someone/something is so popular, think about it for a second - it's probably this same phenomenon.

Im sorry but you just proved what Daisho is saying. Your vouching for vert's entry because you like his previous work, not his current entry.

Lemme explain:

You said Vert's has:

"Big, bold lettering" ............ It doesn't have massive text, But mostly its hard to read for some reason. Maybe the italics.

You also said it has:

"bright colors and a clean finished look" .............. The colors aren't bright, compared to 90% of the other entries the colors are dark. To add, its not a clean finish. It's messy. If i looked at it i would not have said it was Vert's at all compared to every other piece i've seen from him, They all show the traits you state above, Which this entry doesn't.

You also say his looks the best in the place were it will be. However it doesn't. It doesnt fit the color scheme at all, It stands out, yeh, but in a bad way. Where as the other entries are clean cut and fit in nicely. Ricks for example.

So you see you contradicted yourself.

And Vert, that wasn't a rant at you, this is the only thing you've made that i even slightly disagree with. Everything else has been a 99-100% pass on my scale.

I'll reiterate from my last post - I'm not on this site to see someone's art enough to really know their style. I'm sure I haven't even seen most of his recent work, and if I had I wouldn't remember he made it. And I'm not just saying that.

As for what I said in defense of his entry - I meant every word of it, and about his entry. When I was skimming through the entries thread, I did it in the same way I would if I was looking at the forum homepage - I disabled signatures and avatars and scrolled down the page at a decent pace until something caught my eye. Vert's was the only one that not only caught my eye and piqued my attention long enough to get me to read the text, but it was the only one that I read the entirety of (and I even stuck around an extra couple seconds to look closer at what he had done with his entry, but that's not part of the competition) and was the only one I thought really did the job that the button needed to do.

On top of everything I said already, remember that this SotW is asking participants to make something for people to click on - and that's a big thing most people overlooked. You have to remember that when you're creating a button, or really any image with the purpose of hyperlink-embedding, most people are going to recognize it better when it LOOKS like a button.

Buttons just naturally attract peoples' attention. Have you ever watched Dexter's Lab (on Cartoon Network)? The character Deedee is always infatuated with any button she runs across, and always wonders what it does; the same is true with most people, to a lesser extent. If you see something like a button and don't know what it does, there's always a natural tendency to try and find out.

OMFG i used to love that show. :black:

Anyway, on topic; i see what your saying buttons attract attention and so on. But what im trying to say is not just this week its shown. Im talking about this happening every time.

The more popular you are Ect the more people make assumptions. For example:

in SOTW, if your a renowned GFX artist and 99% of your work is essentially what a unicorns tears of joy would look like. Then people see its that persons work and think: "i dont really like this, but everyone else probably will because 'X' made it so it must be good. Ill pretend to like it anyway to fit in"

It sounds stupid but that's the truth, i even do it myself. Another example would be on this joke site i like to look on i see this sort of thing. 'X' see's a joke they find funny but everyone else has voted it down. So automatically 'X' votes it down as well.

It also happens with rep. If someone see's a post with loads of "thanks", for the most part they will "thanks" as well.

I know that's how it works. As a person who loves psychology and sociological studies, I have researched it quite enough lol - it's an opposite effect to the one I described a couple posts ago. Though I've been disproving that type of ideology with every SotW I enter. No matter how much I try to make a good entry, I never win. xD

Enough of my sob story. I didn't say I like Vert's entry because of his old work. I'll say it again - I don't see enough of his work to really see any style from him. I picked his entry solely from the available entries. And I still stand by my opinion that his is the best so far.
