Sony usually adds games to the PlayStation Store but sometimes removes them from PSN. While we can't say for sure how many games are removed from the digital storefront, we can imagine it's not many.

This is why we're surprised at this recent development: Sony has removed a PS4 game from the PSN Store without any announcement or warning, and it's not any old indie game, either.

The game we're referring to is Sniper Elite 3, which has been pulled from the PlayStation Store without an announcement by Sony or its developer, Rebellion. This means that if you want to play the game, you have to track down a physical copy.

Sniper Elite 3 was released in 2014, and garnered fairly positive reviews among critics. Its developer, Rebellion Developments, has since released the first-person action game Atomfall to high critical praise.

Despite Atomfall's success, Rebellion is mostly known for the Sniper Elite franchise. Since Sniper Elite 3, Rebellion has released Sniper Elite 4, Sniper Elite 5, and the latest entry in the franchise, Sniper Elite Resistance, which fired out in January 2025. Same with past franchise entries, Resistance reviewed well, with our verdict stating, "This is a fun game that serves as a window to an important part of history, and if you enjoyed Sniper Elite 5, you will most definitely love this. If you are new to the franchise, I highly recommend giving this a go if you crave that tactical espionage fix typically associated with classic Metal Gear. "

Sniper Elite 3 was also removed from the Xbox storefront in 2023 without an explanation. If Rebellion or Sony provides an explanation for the game's removal, we will update the story with the information.

Thankfully, there are other Sniper Elite games available on the PSN Store; however, you may want to acquire the older titles now in case they are also removed.
