But I need to know if it is possible to unlock let's say an AT&T locked iPhone INSIDE Australia.. Because I have friends in America who send me their old iPhones (nice I know haha) but I'm stuck with a locked iPhone and the guy in Retravision (not a phone store) said that it would be impossible.

Impossible is just a word for quitters.. Is there any help available for me?

there are plenty of jailbreaking tutorials on here, after it is jailbroken you can unlock it. There are tutorials for that too.
What firmware is it on? if 3.1.3 use spirit, if 4.0 use the redsn0w tutorials.
