hold the power + home button for 60 secounds

Sounds like your pod is in dfu mode.

Hold down the power and home button for 7 seconds then let go of the power button and keep holding the home button for 10 seconds.

Then connect your phone to your pc/laptop and restore with itunes.

Upgrade to 4.0 and then jailbreak with the new comex jailbreak.
