Hmm, this happened to me when my brother was playing an app on my iTouch, I just restarted it, I'm not sure how, but I remembered holding on the Power button at the top, hold it for 3-5 seconds, and try holding the home button for 3-5 seconds, I'm not sure if this would work.

to the above post, it should work in theory cause i have had a random freeze on my ipod nano 4th gen. it said hold down menu and play/pause (on/off) and it was fine after holding down for about 5 seconds the ale logo came up and then it restarted
