First off its pretty damn hard to "break" your iDevice. YES, it can be TEMPORARY messed up but thats easily fixable by entering DFU mode and restoring. Theres LOTS you can do such as cool new apps you can only get in cydia, you can mod games, you can mod the ENTIRE iPod theme(right now mine looks like a Zune HD or a Droid) and they look close. Everything looks like that phone, even the app store and music... if the theme was made well.

Pretty soon you should be able to install openiboot which allows you to dual boot the iOS with another OS such as Droid software or linux. You can get free games, play modded ones, play PSX or GBA games on their emu's as well.

Theres TONS of shit you can do, just google it or go on other iDevice forums and you'll see what I mean.

Also the only way to make it "slower" is to install a bunch of sys shit like having winterboard, SBsettings or whatever and a bunch of other "heavier" RAM stuff. Even then you should run fine and if not just uninstall something.

Forgot to mention you can install OpenSSH(THIS IS A MUST RIGHT AFTER YOU JB!). So if you ever have any problems you can fix them and view the files and add or delete what you don't want. Also this is what you need to install themes that are not on cydia.

Also another thing you really should do is back up your SHSH Blobs using Cydia or tinyumbrella right after you JB. IMO this is a MUST. Even though if it seems stupid, doing so will allow you to restore previous IPSW's, even if apple no longer signs them.... you can still restore. So say Im on 4.1 and I have all my previous blobs from my FW stored along with 4.1. Well I could downgrade using restore to another FW such as 3.0 if I wanted to, even though apple no longer allows it. And then restore back to 4.1 later; once again only if I have the 4.1 blobs saved.

Why would you not... unless you are willing to pay cash for an app.

Also i jailbroke my ipod when i first got it and the performance is in the same state as i first got it.. working perfectly fine.

I jaibroke mine within days of getting mine. Love it!

To be able to get any new apps, try them and delete them is much better is better then buying something shank and then you are stuck with it.

Winterboard is awesome as well. I have changed nearly every feature of mine, currently got Slanted Lock for my lock screen and Sista Theme with a custome UI sounds.

Do it mate... you wont look back!

I would say jailbreak it, some peoples ipods become slower because they go maniac installing every app.
