What you need

An iphone, ipod or ipad running on 4.2.1
SHSH blobs of iOS 4.2b3 (the third beta of iOS 4.2) saved on your iDevice
Mac
iOS 4.2.1.ipsw and iOS 4.2b3.ipsw
Redsn0w 0.9.7b4 and 09.06.b4
Itunes 10.1+

This is only for iphone 4, ipod touch 4th generation and ipad

How to do it

Step 1: Install iOS 4.2.1 on your device and jailbreak it(tethered) using my other tutorial You must login or register to view this content.

step 2: Start Cydia and check that you have saved the SHSH blops for 4.2b3. At the top in the start screen of cydia you see wich SHSH blops you have saved, if you only have 4.2.1 stop here, if you have 4.2b3 keep reading, if you have 4.1 or lower downgrade to that and then upgrade to 4.2b3, save the blops and then upgrade to 4.2.1 and start over

Step 3: Start Redsn0w 0.9.7b4 and connect your iphone, ipod or ipad

Step 4: Browse for the 4.2.1.ipsw file

Step 5: Hit next. When you come to the next screen only select the "Jailbreak Monte" option, then select the 4.2b3 firmware and hit next.

Step 6: Make sure your device is both turned off and plugged in [it will also say this on the screen] before you click next. When you click next you are going to get your iDevice into DFU mode.

If everything works out you now have a untethered device on firmware 4.2.1
