First off, I just wanna say this was my tutorial I attempted to submit for the tutorial team, but I couldn't due to NGU being down Saturday :gusta:
Creating A Cool Jailbreak Theme (iPhone/iTouch)
Dificulty: 4/10
Time: 1-2 Hours
Written for windows users primarily
In this tutorial, I'll teach you how to create your own Jailbroken IDevice theme, for either an iPhone or iTouch. Please note I will not teach you how to make this excact theme, but I will arm you with the knowledge and tools to make one like it. This is how the end product will work:
You must login or register to view this content.
Before I get started, here are the things you will need:
Jailbroken iPhone or iTouch
connecter cable
Winterboard (Get it in Cydia, it's free)
Adobe CS5 Photoshop (Or other compareable program)
iPhonebrowser (Get it free at You must login or register to view this content. )
Now, to the actual tutorial.
(Step 1)
On your desktop, on your PC or Laptop, create a new folder, and name it whatever . Inside of that, create another folder called Icons. Icons must be campitalized and spelt the excact same way.
(Step 2) (Optional)
For this step, we will be using Photoshop.
Open up Photoshop, and hit File>New.
From there, create a document with the dimmensions 320 wide by 480 high. This will be the wallpaper that goes with your theme. Please note that if you create a background for your theme, there is no way to get rid of it AND kepp the theme. This can be problematic, so I reccomend creating a seperate theme just for the background.Create whatever sort of design you'd like. Try and make it fit with whatever you have in mind for what your apps will look like. Save this document under the folder "My_theme" as a .PNG file.
(Step 3)
Now we start editing the design of apps. All apps are 59 width by 60 height pixels. If you want to base your design on the actual app's icon, you can find those on Google.
Edit these to your liking. The things you can do is...
Edit opacity
Edit color or design of app (As long as it's within the height x width of the origanal)
All of that will be explained below.
Editing Opacity
to edit the opacity (transparency), simply adjust the opacity of the image. These app icons are saved as .PNGs, so their opacity carries over.
Here's an example of the transparency, and to which level that it's been modified. Use this to decide what you want your opacity/transparacy to be.
You must login or register to view this content.
Changing design of app
To change an app's design, simply open it up in photoshop, and design away. Every app can be re-colored, or edited in any other way. You can scrap the origanal all together, and make your own from scratch. Just remember to save the file as a .PNG, and as the name of the app, as it appears on the home screen.
Most of you may be asking "what about all of my other Apps?" Any app you buy from the App Store, or download off cydia, can also easily be edited. simply design the themed app, then save it under Icons as a .PNG. Name it the EXCACT same name as appears on your iDevice, caps and all.
(Step 4)
For this step, we plug in our idevice, and open up iPhonebrowser.
On iphone browser, hit go to location>winterboard themes. From here, drag your theme from your desktop into the window on the right. X out the program and go on to the next step.
(Step 5)
On your iDevice, go in to winterboard, then click select theme. Disable anything that is already checked, then select your theme. Back out of that, then tap respring, and you should be good to go.
After some work, you can make some cool themes for your personal iDevice easily! If any of you follow through and make a theme of your own, please share it below.
