(adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({}); Cydia is awesome, but sometimes it can get a little annoying because of how slow it can be. Today I will show you some ways to speed up Cydia AND your entire iPhone.

Upgrading to the new Cydia:

A new Cydia has been released (1.1.3). This is much, much faster than the old version. I was surprised about how many people didn't know about this so here's the link: You must login or register to view this content.
Manually Download and Install Cydia v1.1.3 - SiNfuL iPhone

Disabling Automatic Refresh:

NOTE - AUTOMATIC REFRESH DOES NOT WORK ON CYDIA (1.1.1). THE APP HASN'T BEEN UPDATED FOR THE NEW CYDIA AND WILL TAKE OFF THE NOTICE WHEN IT HAS. IF YOU INSTALL IT YOU RISK SCREWING UP ALL OF CYDIA.

This can be quite annoying. Every time you open up Cydia, it refreshes all of your sources/repos in search of new packages. Depending on how many repos you have, this could take a good 5 minutes. Here is a way to disable this:

Step 1: Install SBSettings from the BigBoss repo.

Step 2: Add the following source, Repo Info

Step 3: Search for "NoCyfresh i4". Once you find it, install it (Make sure it is the one from the iHacksRepo (IHR) source).

Step 4: After you've installed it, open up SBSettings. (Usually by swiping across the status bar) You will see an option called "NoCyFresh". Tap it so that it turns red.

Step 5: Respring

Step 6: Open up Cydia and you will notice that it no longer refreshes! You will need to do this manually once in a while though (I do it about once every 3 days) to keep up with all the new packages being released. To do this, go to the "Changes" tab and you will see a "Refresh" button. Press that to manually refresh.

Disabling Ads:

In every package you go to view on Cydia, it has to load all the different links, descriptions, ads, logos...etc. The ads take up most of the bandwidth and slow it down the most. To disable ads in Cydia and ACROSS YOUR IPHONE, do the following:

Step 1: Add the repo You must login or register to view this content.

Step 2: Search for "SBAdBlockToggle" and install. (Make sure it's from the modyouri repo)

Step 3: Respring if Cydia had not done that already. Next, open up SBSettings and you should see a toggle called "AdBlock". PRESS AND HOLD THE TOGGLE UNTIL YOUR DEVICE RESPRINGS.

Step 4: If you go into Cydia and open up a package you will notice that there are no more ads. If you happen to open any other app (Jailbreak app or Appstore app) you will notice there there are no Ads there either! (This really comes in handy when you are in Installous downloading apps and there are always ads in just about every file hosting site. This disables the ads and drastically speeds up the process of downloading the apps themselves )

Step 5: Enjoy your ad-free iPhone/iPod Touch !!

Both of these work on iOS 4.2.1 threw 5.1

If you were blind didn't see where I said NoCyFresh would crash your Cydia if you have the latest version, go here to fix your problem.

There's a reason you are supposed to add a source if it is a copy paste. None of the places that are supposed to have links have them which is pretty annoying for someone trying to use this information.

That's one of the reasons a post needs a source (if possible) so the original links can be kept. I wasn't trolling I was trying to help. :dumb:
