Unless you have a PS3 on 3.55 firmware, you can't do anything with the patch.

To check your PS3's firmware, go to Settings > System Settings > System Information. The information is shown in the "System Software" field.

More than likely, your firmware is not going to be on 3.55. I believe there are methods to downgrading, but you may damage your PS3.
