You still have to unlock weapons by rank u can't by the best weapon at the start of the game. With cod points u only buy camos accesories and perks not guns. Just sayin for people who don't know

Unlock then buy. I imagine unlocks will be earlier than in the other COD's because Josh Olin and Dan said that you would be able to buy your favourite gun, when you want instead of it being unlocked at a certain stage (unbalanced).
Personally, I think you'll have a certain amount of guns avaliable, and unlock them all at one certain level (or possibility of choosing unlock) same with camo, emblem etc

I thought I have heard somewhere that you unlock a category of weapon, then you choose which gun you want at what time. I could be wrong, but thats what I believe.

You are wrong there's a thread about it saying that you unlock everything at certain levels. For instance, all perks at level 4, custom reticles at 10, guns at 15 etc

WRONG.
You unlock the best guns by buying other guns in the catagory.
Once you buy a certain amount of guns in a catagory better guns will open up.
And you can just buy any perk at any time.
