(adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({}); An independent gaming pressure group has told IncGamers it is to report Activision to the Office of Fair Trading after the publisher failed to respond to an open letter regarding the buggy 'unfinished' versions of Black Ops on PC and PS3.

Gamers' Voice, which was founded in 2009 by MP Tom Watson, was set up to represent gamers in the UK by making their voice heard to government and mainstream media.

The organisation issued an open letter to Activision on December 22, revealing that they have been 'inundated with complaints from people who have bought copies of Call of Duty: Black Ops. They all concern the PlayStation 3 console and PC versions of the game.'

The letter asked Activision what they are going to do to 'recompense' buyers, giving the publisher one calendar month to respond. Activision, however, failed to do so.

Chris O'Regan, Head of Industry Relations at Gamers' Voice, told IncGamers: "As a result of their inaction we will test the might of government agencies against Activision. We can only hope this brings about some litigious action. These agencies do exist to protect our rights as consumers, let us see if they can fullfill their remit on this pressing issue.

"GV wish to set an example with Activision to ensure games are not released in an unfinished state. If litigation is initiated, then a precedent would be set. In other words, publishers will have to reconsider releasing unfinished code in the future, in the UK at least."

O'Regan said it could take 'months' for a formal government investigation, stating: "For the government agencies, months if they do start a formal investigation. For Activision, they may re-act a might quicker, although it will likely be a rebuttal and nothing more."

The news comes after IncGamers was told by Trading Standards that buyers should get a refund for bug-ridden versions of the game.

"Multiplayer comes free with every copy of call of duty black ops"

Says that somewhere on the case. When you buy the game you're paying for campaign/zombies/everything else thats not online.

That's a bit sad to be honest.

PS3 and PC players want the Government to step in and investigate a video game?

They have more important things to do, like oh I don't know...fighting terrorism.

I can already see their response...

"We're sorry. What do you want us to do about it? We don't care."

Oh to the OP, congrats on posting this before our news team did.

Reading, you apparently suck at it. Re-read what the OP has said and you'll realize that it isn't the PS3 or PC gamers that are asking for actions. Plus the UK government isn't the one in a "war" against "terrorism". Also this is serious business, if the government don't protet consumers from faulty games then why protect others against faulty washing machine when those even guys are less in numbers.

Really dude? I hope you don't get the memo when and if they decide to hook us up and you don't get anything. Last thing i knew the government is here to protect the freedom and happiness of it's citizens, did you ever take history class?

and another thing regardless of it being "sad", it's sad that we get screwed and we paid more for the game in the first place. Thats what's really sad, we overpaid for a shitty version of the game. The sad thing is that activision knows better, and they should get what they deserve.

i agree with you 100%.. lets hope they can never get away with ripping there customers off with unfinished bullshit ever again:y:

Daddy's home.
It's not sad or stupid. When they say the Government they don't actually mean David Cameron or Black Obama, they mean something to do WITH the Government. It's not sad. Think about this. They release a game that isn't finished fully and doesn't work properly. We pay £40/£50 for it to not work. After CoD 4 which is the most successful, we spent £120 on shitty games from a billion dollar company who should have no excuse for it. Now £120 x say 10 million people is £1200000000. That's a hell of a lot of money they got for shitty games. Activision know we aren't happy but they don't care. You know why? Cos we still buy them. Something needs to be done to shitty games. Why should we spend £40 on something that doesn't work? Would you spend £120 on an iPod and it doesn't work? No, you'd take it back for a new one or a refund. On;y we can't take games back if it's not the game shops fault ie game freezing, scratched disk etc. There isn't anything for shit coding for them to follow.

Trading standards... if a product is released which is dramatically inferior and doesn't meet statements provided by the developer and publisher, anybody who's bought the game in the UK has a valid case.

Even though I believe the issue can be fixed with patches, it mostly lies on the inferiority of the PSN network, and considering it barely isn't funded, the level of quality throughout the servers is completely different compared to the XBL service.

Although other games such as MW2 run smoothly, I believe it is an issue mostly on Activision's part and they should start resolving the issue before they're fined, because trust me it's happened before over the most smallest of mistakes.

majority of games run smoothly on the psn, take little big planet for example, 2 million users, it loads slow but once your online and in a game your fine
