CoD Black Ops Multiplayer Overview:
Okay so with the recent release of CoD Black Ops which is right now making sales records across the world on nearly every platform there is one question on our minds, whether the MP is good enough? I mean isn’t the MP of this game another reason we buy XBOX Live Gold cards or pay for the full price of the game on release date? Over the years we have seen many improvements done to CoD games, starting with Modern Warfare, World at War and Modern Warfare 2. Each game brought a new change to the multiplayer game style but yet generation after generation of CoD game is always a lobby of fun, the online population of the game is very healthy especially when you are playing the latest CoD game in the series, like right now Black Ops has an average of 300,000+ users daily on PlayStation 3, although right now the game is at its prime stages after a month or so this number will decrease to 200,000 daily and so and might maintain a certain daily average.
Enough introduction let’s get on to the topic at hand. I have been playing Black Ops and so far I like it, although there are a few things you should know ahead of time
1. There is regional / global matchmaking although both are a bit laggy at the moment but Treyarch is working on a fix.
2. The FAMAS is the new UMP 45 of this game, a few hits from this bad ass and you can easily get an insane killstreak in no time.
3. Tactical Insertions can’t be used in Free for all’s so no more boosting
4. The max kill streak is up to 11 killstreaks which Is the gunship, it’s like the campaign missions Payback, you can pilot the HIND by yourself and no kills from your killstreak do not count to your killstreak i.e if you are one kill away from attack dogs and you have a cobra out then getting a few kills will NOT give you the attack dogs killstreak, you have to kill every enemy with YOUR GUN for the killstreaks.
5. Wager matches are incredibly fun to play with friends and strangers you can bet as low as 10 cod points or as high as 10,000 cod points and risk winning 3x that amount if you manage to place first in the wager matches. The easiest wager match by FAR is gun game, I have placed first in this game mode many times and the only difficult part for me is sniping otherwise I easily get a 6-7 killstreak.
6. This is not like the other CoD games where you level up and you have the weapon available instantly for purchase, you still need to level up to use perks and weapons but they cost CoD points to unlock and so do their attachments, even your equipment and killstreak rewards cost points, this is a very big motivational factor for those of you who plan on getting by on variable guns, the fastest way to earn XP is to earn short term challenges called contracts or just play a few rounds of wager matches.
7. To prestige you will need 5,000 cod points
8. Max rank is level 50 which is pretty easy to level up to.
9. You can customize your CoD card (the card which has emblems and title) to your own liking you can make custom images, join 2 images together and even choose your own color for your emblem and title
10. You can watch your previous gameplay videos (upto 7 days only) in theatre mode with a friend and show off great games you had to friends who claim “Pics or it didn’t happen” my friend and I always get together now and then and compare rounds of gun game and domination.
11. Over powered perks like Commando are gone and in their place we have flak jacket and hacker and other new perks.
12. Care packages no longer roll like boulders and instead stay stationary, it was bloody ridiculous to get killed by YOUR OWN care package in modern warfare 2 even by a SLIGHT roll
13. The new maps are amazing, I have not encountered any campers or any possible spots where you can hide yourself from the enemy. The maps have a great design and very challenging at times.
14. A new weapon attachment is the flamethrower, a fancy way of finishing off enemies who haven’t noticed your presence and it looks friggin amazing when you set him on fire and he runs like a headless chicken.
15. Cod points spent CAN NOT BE REFUNDED what’s bought is bought, YOU CAN NOT RETURN OR EXCHANGE ANY PERK AND SO ON.
The MP gives you a lot of variety you can use many different items to help you get kills, such as decoys, spike camera and even a portable radar which you can hide and it will show incoming enemies within a certain radius, this is especially useful if your a sniper.
In my opinion the game is more balanced then Modern Warfare 2, there is lesser noobtubing and commando abusers. Now that people have to earn their perks I think it will be a while before we see noobtubers become a common thing but until then the game is absolutely is MUCH more challenging compared to Modern Warfare 2, you will definitely rage at the start of the game (when you are new to the game) because the handling feels VERY different from MW2 but once you get used to it you can become a beast, in 2/3 matches i always manage to call in a cobra atleast twice with the help of the FAMAS. The game is simply too hard to put down once you get the hang of the MP, with the return of classic game modes (S&
, TDM, Ground War, Demolition etc) how can you possibly pass up this great game?
once again this is my own work, I did not plagiarize this from any site and if missed any details please do point them out. I just made this so that people can get better guidance on how the MP of Black Ops is like, I welcome your feedback and ideas.

Call of Duty: Black Ops features extensive multiplayer experience after you get out of the awesomeness of the most engaging singleplayer storyline. If you are new to Call of Duty franchise or an average FPS fan, you can read the following Call of Duty: Black Ops Multiplayer Strategy Guide to get your basics right.
The Basics
These are the basics that will improve your overall understanding of the game if you are new to Call of Duty: Black Ops Multiplayer. If you are a Call of Duty franchise follower, Skip to next section.
Tip #1. Train yourself. Put Training Ground to good use and try different weapons against AI bots and see which weapon suits you. You can use the maps, increase the AI difficulty and learn the weapon/perk combination, the advantages and disadvantages associated with each choice.
Tip #2. The game is new, but you will come across people with sick aims. These are guys you need to avoid right now but how ? get your ass in cover but don’t camp. Move from place to place, and always make sure you have something solid behind you so that you can focus upfront. Kill one, move to next spot and so on.
Tip #3. Communicate, if you are playing team based game like search and destroy, which requires tactical knowledge of the opponents every round. Share your thoughts, get feedback, listen to what your team says.
Just don’t be an individual in seek of kills – score, dying randomly off nades. In team based games, spawn points are very important especially in Search and Destroy, Only Rush if you have the top spawn. Otherwise, its best to wait for the nades, or change the route, cut them from the middle or flank them.
Tip #4. Keep trying different combinations as you are leveling up, try different guns, don’t stick to one gun, just because everyone else is using the same gun. It’s better to try every gun right now, and see what type of gameplay and gun suits you.
Tip #5. Patience is something you will learn as the time passes, but still, try to be patient. It’s always best to take a clear shot, if you know you can’t take a clear shot, just wait for the enemy to come in sight for the clear shot. The whole point of this fuss is that you don’t stupidly give your position away in an attempt to kill a running opponent.
Tip #6. Revenge is sweet, but don’t go mad at someone just because he fragged you once. Focus on the original game plan. There are probably half a dozen other guys you can frag, so why bother ?
Tip #7. Take Cover. There are tons of things you can use to take cover, and hide behind. Learn how can you move from cover to cover. You can also take advantage of the spawn patterns but that would be too much for you at this stage of the game. Always get yourself behind hard cover, not something that is easily penetrable.
Tip #8. Take Cover, and Reload. Don’t Reload, while moving, you will die miserably and won’t even have a chance to react.
Tip #9. Use the Mini map. OH you knew that ? use it to your advantage. Red Dots on Mini-map are your enemies engaged in firefights. Now, that you know there location, why not finish them off. If you find a cluster of the enemies, try to flank and go for a safe route.
Tip #10. How you get fragged mostly ? ask this question to yourself and try not to. Try to keep your deaths below 10, it helps.
[multipage=BO: Playing Styles!]
There are several types of gameplay styles people have when it comes to FPS games. Run-and-Gun, the most famous and Camping, the most hated.
Run-and-Gun
Been doing that almost since my first First Person Shooter game. It involves constant search for opposing players and killing them, you keep moving all the time, hence Run-and-Gun. If you want to keep your deaths to minimum, this gameplay style isn’t for you. On a good day, you get the most kills, and on a bad day, the most deaths.
For those who like to rush, and attack, should opt for Run-and-Gun from the start, but keep in mind, it doesn’t mean you keep running all the time. You can really camp at opposite spawn if you happen to reach there early in the round. You can wreck havoc this way, just don’t be stupid and loose your advantageous position.
Initial Rush is the most important aspect in this gameplay style. Your focus should be on your initial burst, and reach the strategic spot of the map before the opposing attackers. Kill the opposing attackers and try to sneak into the opposite spawn, and then be patient and pick your opponents nice and easy.
Sniper
If you are Snipe, know the maps, know the spots, and be patient. Patience is important, you only got one shot and you need to pull it off accurately. Go for accuracy during your initial phase. During early phase, you may only be killing opposing Snipers, and Campers, but after sometime you will start picking up moving targets and may start attacking with sniper. You can refer to Our Basic Sniping Tips for more.
Stealth
Gameplay style I hate the most, they are silent, no footsteps noise, probably will use silencer to suppress the gun, and come close to campers. You need one Stealth guy in your team, it helps, these are the guys that pop out of anywhere, they move slow, sneak in behind enemy lines and you can’t even spot them, because of the holy Silencer. If this is your style of play, you know now, what you need to do.
Camping
As I said, the most hated gameplay style. Why is this the most hated gameplay style ? because these guys have the ability to pop out of the rather absurd spots. They can be found lying on the ground on a common alley, on stairs, and in the room corners.
They move less, but can make life miserable for everyone, even if they don’t kill you. If you are to camp, find the spot that gets most traffic, and blast every enemy that comes in your line of sight.
People will hate you though, but campers are more like defenders and in team-based matches, you need at least 2 defenders. By time, you will refine your camping skills, and learn to move, and everything will be fine. Campers learn the game fast by the way.
Mixed Style
Its your own unique approach to the game, that basically will be hybrid of the above gameplay styles
[multipage=Call Of Duty Black Ops: Weapon Guide Sub-Machine]
We give you a detailed rundown of every weapon in Call Of Duty: Black Ops.
More than any Call Of Duty, Black Ops selection of weapons is far more balanced than ever before. We have the details of every tool here, and where they can best be utilised to make the decision of what to spend your credits on that little bit easier.

Sub-machine Guns
MP5K
Best with: ACOG
Considering the damage over distance of this starting sub-machine gun means you may never want to swap out of this weapon anyway. You will want to remain stationary and use short bursts over greater distances, since the recoil can cause you to miss a couple of shots and, inevitably, the kill. Scoping with an ACOG will give you extra range to counter this.
“We have the details of every tool here, and where they can best be utilised to make the decision of”
Skorpion
Best with: Rapid Fire
The range on this weapon is abominable over any kind of long distance. If that’s your preferred style, avoid this weapon entirely. It is, however, very accurate – especially from the hip – so perfect for close quarters maps like Cracked. Sticking Rapid Fire or Dual Wield on will give you even faster fire-rate, making it unstoppable in one-on-one situations.
MAC11
Best with: Grip
This is a fairly forgettable weapon in most categories. Its damage is it’s forgiving feature, however, which will drop most enemies if you can get the first shots off. Ultimately we’d recommend you hold out for something a little more special. Sticking a Grip on will give you better control over it when attacking your foes.
AK74u
Best with: Red Dot Sight
Since you’ve no doubt already heard of this weapon, you’re probably aware that it is a decent weapon. And the same is true in Black Ops, covering most bases that you want a sub-machine gun to cover: power, accuracy, range – it’s got it all. For this reason the choice of attachment lies with your preference, a grip for more precise shots over distance or a grenade launcher for those so inclined.

Uzi
Best with: Grip
Much like the MAC11, the Uzi requires specific situations to really excel. Getting the jump on enemies and in close range combat is really the only way to use this. It’s accuracy and recoil will be the biggest downfall, so shooting from the hip will save the day. Using a grip will help over distance, but we wouldn’t bother.
PM63
Best with: Extended Mag
This is the most accurate of the sub-machine guns, and it packs a punch too. There are very few options available to you with this weapon, which says a lot about how useful it is. The choice is yours then, from a grip for slight accuracy upgrade or extended mag to increase its rather limited clip size.
MPL
Best with: Red Dot Sight
A 32 bullet clip makes this practically an assault rifle. Unfortunately, it lacks the punch of bigger weapons so is limited in its use. Best for maps like Havana and Cracked, which have a lot of corners and inside sections, while giving range across the longer stretches – albeit only with short bursts.
Spectre
Best with: Red Dot Sight
A fairly versatile weapon that excels in no real area. It has a bit of damage but not enough to rival the AK or PM63. It can be used across various distances without worry providing you use single shots, but can also be used in close quarters if needed. A red dot sight will help you with aiming, but switching out for a grip or rapid fire will give you your own playstyle.
[multipage=Call of Duty Black Ops: Multiplayer survival guide]
Chances are the majority of Black Ops play time will be spent in multiplayer. For new recruits, Xbox Live and PSN won't be friendly training grounds.
So, to save you some serious aggro we've got a few top tips to survive online from Treyarch's Dan Bunting.
Learn and implement them to climb those rankings quicker than a AK-armed rat up a drainpipe.
There's a lot of new customisation options. What do you recommend getting first?
Typically, I'll buy an assault rifle or an SMG (submachine gun), whatever the first one is that I unlock.
You must login or register to view this content.
Then I'll get an attachment for that, whether it's a suppressor, a red dot sight or extra magazines - any kind of attachment that's going to enhance that weapon so I at least have a competitive weapon against other people.
Are there any non-gun purchases you'd recommend?
I'd recommend buying something in the tactical grenade category because the default is the smoke grenade and that's got a very specific use.
So you need something that's a little more general purpose like a flashbang or a concussion grenade.
Can you explain the new motion sensor to us?
The new motion sensor is essentially your own personal UAV (Unmanned Aerial Vehicle). It lets you put radar in a specific location, and on your mini-map it'll show you all the red dots for all the enemies in a certain radius.
It's useful in all game modes but it depends what style of player you are. If you're a fast-paced run-and-gun player then you're probably not going to need that equipment because you're never going to have time to set it down in one location, you're always on the move.
You must login or register to view this content.
It's really more for defensive players. Especially in objective game modes where you want to guard a location and keep that location protected: maybe put it in a doorway and see if people come in.
There's also the camera spike which is another surveillance gadget. Which is the best?
The camera spike serves a similar purpose to the motion sensor. They both give you information about enemies in a certain area but the motion sensor is radius based so you see in 360 degrees while the camera spike is directional.
So you might use it for a long hallway or a long street. The camera spike is better for covering long ranges of engagement.
The One in the Chamber matches only give you one bullet. What's the best way to survive or tell if someone's bluffing?
You can't tell: that's the whole point. It's one of the things that makes that game mode so tense. The best tactic is to try and sneak around and knife people to get more bullets.
What's your preferred approach and loadout?
I'm all about style. I don't care about kill to death ratio. I just want to make the kill look as cool as possible. So I have what I call my humiliation class.
You must login or register to view this content.
I have concussion grenades and tomahawk because I try to get mostly tomahawk kills, or sticky grenade.
What's your favourite bit of customisation?
My red dot sight is a heart so I can make it that much more embarrassing when I kill people and they see it in their kill cam.
Any good tips for staying alive longer?
I like to use the flack jacket because the game has so much explosive damage - grenade spam, claymores, or whatever.
So I like to have the flack jacket perk so I'm pretty much impervious to those weapons.
What's the best way to avoid being sniped?
You could pick the Ghost Perk. If you level it up to Ghost Pro it makes your name invisible so snipers can't see it.
Lightweight and Marathon let you move faster so it makes it harder for them to hit you at range. The motion sensor is a good way to uncover snipers.
Anything you can do to avoid being picked off. Just keep on the move.
Any advice for dealing with campers?
One thing I like to use is the Valkyrie rocket. I always have the Valkyrie in my kill streak load out because it highlights people in a little red diamond on the HUD.
You must login or register to view this content.
So I'll usually take the missile, fly it around the map once and see where everyone is. If I see someone sitting in a typical camping spot I'll bring it back around and kill him.
The new decoy grenade makes gunfire noises and appears on the radar as a red dot. How's best to use it?
The decoy grenade tricks people into thinking you're in one location and you flank them from another location.
That one's particularly useful in objective based game modes - force them to look in one direction and then come round form another.
What's your one, must-not-ignore tip for improving our game?
Play Combat Training first and get some practice in. Learn how to use the weapons in the competitive environment and make sure to try out different weapons to find out which one is right for you. Then go play online.
