I know what you're thinking, "oh great, ANOTHER guide. But this guide isnt about how to get pro perks, or what killstreaks do, or game modes or anything like that. KDR consists of kills and deaths obviously. Well most guides give you tips about killing(even though a lot are nothing more than Wikipedia for Black Ops), but they rarely tell you things to do to avoid dying, which could lead to more kills in turn.
1.) Don't camp or rush if you are terrible at it...What I mean is, the COD community talks about nothing but how terrible camping is, and how every death they get is from some camper(exaggerating of course.) Well there are methods to rushing. Knowing spawns, maps, what the best range for weapons are, etc. Running around with a 74u and getting killed by THE SAME guy and dying alot doesn't make you cool. Being a rusher doesnt make you cool. Being a GOOD rusher does. And dont camp if you're terrible at it. I cant count how many guys I kill that were literally LYING ON THE FLOOR WAITING FOR ME TO COME IN. And I still kill them. Whether you camp, rush or in between, dont be timid. I hate those little homos crouched, slowly moving around corners, all scared.
2.) Spread out! Contrary to popular belief in COD there isnt strength in numbers. Unless you are capturing a flag, or trying to bumrush a camper, running too close together will lead to nothing but you giving the enemy a double, triple, multikill.
3.) DON'T go to the same exact spot your teammate is using for cover or camping at. Examples would be when you have like 3 idiots ALL CAMPING on top of the cliff on Jungle. All it takes is one nade and at least 2 of them are dead. When I play on Jungle on Dom and enemy has C flag, I always just toss a grenade on that cliff because someone will be up there. Bad campers.
4. Have multiple classes. Try to have a Flak Jacket, Tac Mask class to capture objectives to avoid the endless nades people chuck at objective points. Also try using Frags. Semtex are fine, but Frags roll and seem to like to stick to people's feet, so you get more lucky kills. And if you arent doing well with a gun, maybe switch to another one. SMG and burst weapons arent always going to give you good games. Switch it up. Switch to a different gun or suppressor if you are getting worked.
5. TRY TO AVOID PLAYING SOLO. I swear to you, Black Ops rewards players that play with a party. Seriously whenever I play with a party of 3-6 it seems like the other team is full of splitscreen noobs to kill. The more players you have in your party, the less splitscreen guys you have on your team. If you havent notice, I HATE SPLITSCREEN GUYS, unless they are on the other team. I know, someone will say how them and their friends play splitscreen and beast, but we all know the MAJORITY of splitscreen guys are worthless.
6. Don't use a Sniper Rifle or Shotgun unless you are decent with automatic weapons. I use to think Sniping on Black Ops is worthless. I have changed my tune. Depending on the map, Sniping in Black Ops is fun and you can actually have decent games. I still get more kills with AR or LMG but still. However most people are terrible at Sniping that I see. So until you are sure you are decent at it, and do it on the right map, and avoid trying to Quick Scope like its MW2. And NEVER USE the Olympia, unless it's Nuketown and you picked it up off the ground. Although if you are trying to 360 scope or quick scope you probably dont care about dying.
7. Don't camp at higher elevated areas with an SMG. For example, I once killed a guy on Crisis who was on top of that tower by C flag in Dom. The guy had an MP5k. Honestly who in the hell are you going to pick off all the way up there with an MP5k? It will take you too many bullets even if you tap fire. SMG are made for close and medium combat. Not to mention the time I had a teammate perched on top of the tower on Array....WITH A BALLISTIC KNIFE. :dunce:
8. Use the right type of weapon for the map if possible. A 74u isn't going to be as effective on Discovery as it would be on Firing Range or Radiation. I am an Assault Rifle guy myself which has the best overall range besides snipers. But if i am on Nuketown or God forbid Summit, I switch to MPL or PM63 and get nice sprays.
9. Don't try to hipfire from medium range. Don't try to be cute and hip fire in situations when they aren't warranted. If I am in close range with a guy I usually hipfire while rotating around his body, or dropshot or if possible panic knife. Hip Firing should be close range.
10. Don't use a crossbow in the middle of a fight. Crossbows, Tomahawks, and Ballistic Knife are novelties imo. You should use them if you are out of ammo or if you sneak up on someone. Not in the middle of a gun fire. Also pick up guns off the ground when you have the chance. People generally use 74u, Famas, Commando, Galil, so the chances of you having a good gun is pretty good. Pick up off the ground.
11. Don't reload out in the open. I see lots of guys get a kill, and reload without getting behind cover. If you have to reload, try to go prone or get behind cover if you can. Dont reload while going around corners.
12. When your team has Spy Plane up. Occasionally count the red dots you see on your HUD, and compare that to actual enemies. Meaning if you have 8 enemies, but 5 dots, 3 are using Ghost obviously. So be cautious. Also on Objective game modes.
13. DON'T CALL IN SPY PLANE when you already have Blackbird up, or if enemy has counter spy plane up. This one baffles me. :dunce: Why waste a Spy Plane if you have Blackbird? Is a Blackbird not good enough?
14. If you get a Counter Spy Plane in Care Pkg or its one of your KS, sometimes try and wait til you hear "Enemy Spy Plane/Blackbird above". Calling it in right away is okay but if you have a chance, its better to wait til you know they have something so that you made them waste a KS.
15. Don't play Splitscreen if your TV is 32 inch or less. Okay this one is because I hate having splitscreen guys on my team, in case you didnt realize.
16. Stop using 2nd Chance. :carling: 2nd Chance DOES NOT give you more health. It's actually less. As teammates we do not want to waste time reviving your useless ass. As the enemy you are worthless. For one because you drop a pistol, so picking up your weapon is failure. Secondly, I hate when I am say 1 away from Gunship and shoot a 2nd Chance guy, and I get killed. And he dies after me, meaning, the kill I SHOULD have had for my KS came after I died. This is a selfish tip but still.
17. If you are playing solo with noobs or Splitscreen guys, try to use Counter UAV or even Ghost. NOT TO CAMP, but if you do, so what. But when your team sucks, the enemy will have Spy Planes, Blackbird, and Air Support. So having Ghost Pro will help you avoid getting killed all game. More teammates dying could mean less help, which means you will die more. Ghost gets its share of hate, but I think its totally fine to use when your team sucks.
18. Know what perks work with what weapons. Meaning dont use Scavenger with an LMG or G11. Dual Mags and picking up weapons off the ground can solve ammo issues. If you use G11, consider using Steady Aim or Hardened Pro. Sleight of Hand is best 2nd perk but the G11 has plenty ammo before reloads. It also has great hip fire and Hardnened Pro can help you hit more shots with it without flinching.
19. Shoot from behind cover when possible(obvious) and don't throw a nade in the middle of a gunfight. I see lots of guys getting shot at, and instead of shooting back, the just chuck a nade giving the enemy time to pick them off AND run from the nade. Nothing wrong with throwing a nade from behind cover. But in the middle of a fight or if a guy has his sights on you, throwing a nade will make you vulnerable.
20. Walk in rooms and doorways with caution. Use tatical nades since People generally set up claymores by openings where they are camping or like me where they know where people will go. I set up claymores in rooms, but I dont stay there. I set them up because I know somebody will go in there. So 2 minutes later I get a claymore kill while I am across map. Almost like a mousetrap. You dont set up a mouse trap and sit by waiting do you? Point is be cautious, why complain and bitch about a camper camping with a claymore when your dumb ass ran up in one of those rooms on Havana like you were Rambo. The game has been out long enough to know where people camp.
21. Don't waste too much time on one target. If you can't get a clean shot on a guy, dont just keep shooting, which waste bullets and puts you on enemy mini map(assuming not using suppressor). I usually get at least 3 kills a game just from some guy who shoots at me, I duck or get behind cover, he IS STILL SHOOTING in my direction. I wait until he has to reload on bullets, and pop up and shoot him. So basiclly dont waste time shooting at a guy that's gone. Let it go, and get a new target.
22. Don't triple cap in Domination. The exception to this is when the game is nearly over or if you have a team full of good players. Triple capping obviously forces the enemy to spawn everywhere. If you are with a good team, it doesnt matter as much, since good teams that get high killstreaks usually wreck havoc on random teams or scrubs. I personally LOVE when I am on a good team, and force the enemy to camp. It's sadly refreshing when you got a Blackbird, Dogs or Choppers in the air and you see some guy all scared, cowarding in the corner.
23. Listen to in game dialogue. Even if the enemy is using a suppressor if he is close enough you can hear the little suppressor noise. You should pay attention to your HUD so if you see one of the green or blue arrows disappear, regardless of if you saw red dot or not, you have to be aware and know an enemy is near by. Enemies speak with the accent of their faction, ex would be Spetznaz, Black Ops, Tropas, etc. So if you are on Havana and are on the Tropas team and hear "reloading, or throwing grenade" then you know the enemy is near by. The guys talk when they get kills, reload, throw nades, or put down claymores. So listen up for that. And like I mentioned, pay attention to your HUD, but dont be careless about it. Meaning dont get a Spy Plane and just run around freely, because players use Ghost. Ghost however doesnt make the player literally invisible, but only on the radar so listen and keep your eyes peeled.
24. Don't camp in OBVIOUS, open spots. If you must camp, at least have sense. Meaning, keep camping to minimum in these areas:
a.The cliff on Jungle
b. The upstairs rooms on Havana near A and C flags(where people usually snipe, but not for long).
c. The rooms on each side of B on Havana.
d. The big Tower on Array.
e. Anywhere on Firing Range or Nuketown(the jeep)
f. The little elevated cliff near A flag on Crisis.
There are more spots, but those are common spots where people camp. And like I mentioned, sometimes you will have like 2 or 3 idiots camping in that same spot.
25. STAY INSIDE. What I mean is if you dont have a Ghost Pro class and/or a Chopper/Gunship kills you more than like twice. Consider letting it go. This one might be personal preference but you will die less. I dont see Ghost Pro nearly as much. However why would you keep coming out trying to revenge kill my Chopper/Gunship if you spawned inside? If you spawned inside a building, why would you RUN OUT OF SAFETY WITHOUT GHOST PRO to constantly die? Why not stay inside til the Chopper is gone? Same with flag capping. Unless the game is tight or you have Ghost Pro, consider not trying to cap a flag while Chopper/Gunships are up. I do notice that ther person that shoots me down is usually at the bottom of the list. I suppose if you cant get kills, you might as well shoot down air support, YOU HATER!!!!! :carling:
