Post: [1337 Question] How can I read / open .PKG files? (Mw2 Patch File)
06-01-2010, 04:32 AM #1
(adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({}); Me a my crew, we have tried a bunch of stuff - from opening with Mac, to running with Linux (Linux in a Laptop). The file is some what encrypted or unreadable to both systems (Also... Windows can not read .pkg).

I got one man, working to install Other OS into his PS3 to try to open the file there, and get it into several PCs for evaluations of codes and the files inside the patch.

Also, we have looked all over the net for .pkg decryption and we have found couple... but all of them say the file is not encrypted, or the file is corrupted. After couple of research we found that a .pkg file is a .tar.gz file, witch is a little more common. We converted the Mw2 into .tar.gz but no luck as well; no encryption seems to be found.

If any of you guys have any help to provide us (GOOD INFO), we mostly like give you a favor back. And that depends on what we can reach with this patch editing. How far can we go? As far as the Xbox goes today...

Pleas no retarded comments like: "Just open with WinRAR", or "Open with Win-7".

Well you're Mac isn't where the file came from and it's not created for a Mac to read. Or any PC. You need a modded PS3 to have the Hard Drive set up to be accessed through your network. You can then let the PS3 extract it for you then just download what you see and mod it. I'm guessing it's like a PC setup where there are temporary file used during installation. That is the only explanation I have for you. I can't imagine the file isn't encrypted. No, it has to have some encryption and allow me to just say that the easiest way would be to let the PS3 do it for you.

PS: Another OS will just corrupt the file, you have to be able to put it back together kid.

And don't wear it out.
Well a little bit of advice:

.PKG files more commonly refer to a Mac OS compressed file. Therefore most searches for ".pkg decryption" would return something for the Mac OS file.

Exact same thing with .tar.gz. It is a compressed file also, so nearly the same thing as .PKG for the Mac. So when people say .PKG is the same as .tar.gz, they're talking about the Mac OS compressed file, not a patch from the playstation store.

Also, how are you getting the .PKG file off of the PS3 for decryption in the first place? I know it was possible with linux, but now that the "Other OS" option has been removed idk how you're doing it.

We know the the file is in fact encrypted with C++. The problem is getting it decrypted. If any one has any help to give, we will for sure you have credit on this as well.

I was able to monitor my howl internet process, (see what websites it was visiting). And I end it up with a Sony URL to download the patch from.

You need to have the user agent greacemonkey addod for firefox and i think you can get the file to download but im not sure.

I know a C++ encryption is easy if you have the installation file, your not installoing a package file u have another file u dont see i guess;;;

unless... if u go ahread and find some other updates they might show u what u need because im certain its not just a pkg file
