I've got my hands on a 3.15 PS3 (that doesn't read discs) and I'm going to try the HDD decrypt method however I'm having difficulty getting the MW patch on the hard drive.

I've tried:

1. Using a proxy to make the system think that I have the latest firmware so I can login to playstation network and send over the patch that way. This appears to have been fixed and it doesn't look like it's possible anymore.

2. Using the data transfer utility to transfer the patch from my newer (still FAT) PS3 that's on the latest firmware. This ends with an error saying I have to update the firmware before using the utility.

Any clues, tips, hints, methods, ideas, theories are welcome!

I love smart girls. ♥
If you have Playstation Plus, I think you can download game patches without the disc.

Have you tried the usb backup? Use backup utility and do a backup to USB drive ov your ps3 with patch and retire it to your 1.15

I don't have playstation plus but I can't go online because it's the older firmware. If I could get online then I could even try to proxy the patch over via some other download...

I haven't tried the backup however I do remember seeing something about it asking about the firmware update when trying to restore to an older system. I'll try this though.

Thanks for your thoughts guys... It helps to brainstorm this one...

Firmware needs to be the same when u use transfere data utility. But USB backup should work fine aslong as the both fat systems. The only thing is it won't copy write protected data. But lucky for you the patch isn't write protected once on hdd

Tried the backup utility this afternoon. Put a new hard drive in my current PS3 and just installed the MW2 patch. Did the backup and tried restoring on my 3.15 PS3.

The restore process went through fine without any error however when it was all complete I didn't have the MW2 patch installed ^sadface^...

Well, back to the drawing board...
