An Informative Guide for Sub-Base [Domination]
A relatively quick yet informative guide to playing Domination on Sub-Base. It comes with a map I made myself showing the routes, spawns and other things that are needed for this guide.

The above map will be an important part of the guide, and in order to take full advantage of the information provided you should reference back to the map as often as possible. Please note that this guide is explained from the Point of View of the Spetsnaz spawn, but due to the layout of the map the tactics here work with the SEALS spawn too.
Sub-Base; An Introduction
Arguably, Sub-Base is one of the easiest maps for Domination when playing with an organised Team/Clan. The layout of the map makes the most important flag ["B"] very easy to defend from the elevated positions, and also very difficult to capture because of the lack of cover around it. Only the B Flag in Rundown on the bridge is more difficult to capture.
The best attachment for any player on this map is basically the Grenade Launcher. Thanks to the large amount of space and open areas near the flags, it is very easy to flop in a grenade and kill any enemy trying to capture the flag. In order to make the best out of Domination on Sub-Base, you should set your Anti-N00btube prejudice aside.
Marathon is probably the most important perk too, especially in the beginning when everyone rushes to capture B Flag. It is also pretty good for dashing across open areas too, especially when there is very little cover available. On the note of little cover, I advise 99 out of 100 matches to use the Smoke Grenades. They are very helpful and when grouped together by multiple team mates, they provide a huge tactical advantage for not only you but your whole team too.
In short, Sub-Base is a very demanding map for Domination. You need to be quick in order to succeed, and be ready to sacrifice yourself multiple times in order to defend or capture the flags.
The Climax; Going for the B Flag
On most other maps in Modern Warfare 2, capturing the B flag isn't really a big hassle. It is usually in confined spaces and you only need to get there first to be able to capture it. For Sub-Base, it is a totally different story.
The B Flag is located smack bang in the middle of the map, and apart from the less-than-useful crates and the exploding truck you basically have zero cover. Thus, sending anything less than 3 men there without smoke grenades is suicidal, seeing as the enemy can attack from the top, sides or front without too much hassle. Assuming we are playing with six people, 3 of those players will have the dangerous role of rushing B Flag.
For starters, it is essential to at least have these as your starting class:
- Grenade Launcher
- Semtex/Frag Grenades and 1 of the 3 has a Blast Shield
- Smoke Grenades
- Marathon
- Lightweight
In case it was a bit difficult to understand, I think that 2 out of the 3 people rushing for B should have either Semtex or Frags [Depending on preference] so that they can throw them down the tunnel to kill any enemies trying to rush. However, in the case of getting killed via explosions at least 1 Person should have a blast shield so they have a better chance of surviving & capturing the Flag.
When the match starts, the 3 players will start to rush for B Flag as indicated by the Yellow/Brown arrow on the above map.. As they are going down the path, they should let loose their Smoke Grenades; 1 at the Flag and two at the sides. Putting them all at the Flag would be a waste of Smokes, so having them on the sides will be more beneficial.
Once you arrive at the Flag, the person with the Blast shield should go prone behind the Flag and the other two should crouch to the front of it. From that point on, the players should start spamming the middle corridor with Grenades and Noobtubes. If you have a launcher, then that makes it even more efficient. This may seem a bit of a "Nooby" tactic, but I cannot stress the importance of making sure nobody goes through that tunnel towards the flag. What better way to stop them than to lay down the area with explosive fire?

Unfortunately, we cannot use the Submarines nuclear missiles to our advantage.
Once "B" is captured and the Smoke fades, the rushers should immediately fall back into defensive positions. We must assume that the enemy will always try to come in from the front and sides simultaneously in a mix of a Flanking & Pincer maneuver to take over B Flag. However, the enemies Flanking maneuver should be stopped by the team mates on the sides of the map [More on that will be explained later on], so the only way the enemy can take B Flag is from the worst position; the front.
Defending B Flag is best done from elevated positions. The most obvious are the two small towers just next to C Flag and the building above the enemies tunnel. However I suggest avoiding the top of that building, since the enemy can easily locate and kill you. Another few good spots are in the doorways of the C building and its window, and the small building which leads up to the catwalk. I strongly suggest avoiding the catwalk because of the lack of cover and ease of being spotted. I should also mention that once B Flag has been captured, feel free to change classes. I personally recommend placing some claymores around your defensive spots, just in case the enemy breaks through the defenses and tries to kill you.

The yellow dots are potential defensive positions for you and your team mates, and the black arrows are possible directions of enemy offensive maneuvers.
The Guardian Angel; Capturing C Flag
Not capturing C Flag is a rare error that occurs with only the most horrid of teams, who's players don't have enough brains to fill an egg cup. Naturally, B Flag is given more attention but one must NEVER forget the important spawn flag.
This part is simple enough, and pretty much half of it is already indicated in the main map above; 1 Person captures C Flag. However, there is just a bit more to it than that. The player going for C Flag doesn't need any special attachments or perks, but the nature of C Flag is usually unprotected and that is why it is usually captured by the enemy. However, there is a simple solution for this problem which is surprisingly effective; C4 Explosives!
Once you capture C Flag, the player just has to place a C4 charge nearby and run off. If you have Danger Close then thats even better, but it isn't a big deal. In the unfortunate event that you hear the "Enemy is capturing C!" tone from your teams commander, all you have to do is pull the trigger and boom goes the C4, killing the enemy. However this doesn't always work. Sometimes the enemy might have SitRep equipped and destroys the C4, or maybe he was too far from the C4 to get killed. In this case, the player that originally captured C must always be close by and prepared to defend it. This also applies for Clan matches or competitions where C4 is banned; just don't stray too far from your spawn.

Time for Vladimir to put on a warm hat, because it looks like there's going to be a Cold War...
I also strongly recommend not venturing into the enemies half of the map, otherwise you will be too far away from C Flag in case they start capturing it, and sometimes your other team mates will be pre-occupied with other issues. However, if you are sure nobody is around C then I suggest you go lend a hand to those defending B Flag. I recommend the positions located in the C Flag building indicated in the above map, since they are pretty close by to C but still good defensive spots for B.
The Supporting Roles; Defending the Flanks
Countless players and YouTube Commentators always advise on Flanking the enemy, and act as if it is a plan too good to fail. Though it is good in some instances, it only takes a well organized clan with good players to make any flanking maneuver fall to pieces [Just like a Honda]
The flanks on Sub-Base are relatively open, yet very effective for capturing B Flag. Anybody that goes for B should be wary of their sides, but the strategy shown in this thread will allow the people rushing B to focus on the enemies rushers instead of those pesky flankers. As seen in the above map, two people will go on the flanks and hold down their positions. Basically, this is just camping to benefit not just yourself but the entire team too.
I suggest these items as the load out:
- Any LMG with 100 Rounds [i.e not the AuG]
- Stinger or Javelin for taking down air support
- Tactical Insertion
- Setting UAV and Counter-UAV as the killstreaks
- Claymores
LMG's are an obvious choice of weapon; with good firepower and a large ammo clip you will be able to hold down an area with ease and spray for a long period of time. However, if you have any gun with the extended Mag's attachment [Notably the P-90] then you can use that instead. If you are a good sniper, then you could use any sniper. Please, try not to snipe if you are anything less than a very good Sniper, you will be more of a hazard than a help for your team that way.
I also think that they should carry something capable of taking down air support, and having two people ready at all times to take down air support is a good thing. Best organize one of the players to take down things like UAV's, Counter-UAV's and Harriers and the other to focus more on Pavelows, Chopper Gunners and Attack Helicopters. This is best sorted out via headset communication of course.

This is the top part of the map, next to the largest submarine. Yellow spots are potential spots for the player, and the black arrows are routes from where the enemy could attack.

This is the lower part of the map, near the APC/IFV. As before, yellow spots are potential spots for the player and black arrows are routes from which the enemy could attack.
Tactical Insertions could be beneficial, if you are killed then you can pop up straight away and continue defending your position as if nothing happened. If you are not so fond of the Insertions, then claymores would be helpful in taking out those who you have not managed to kill.
In the event that the people defending B Flag have been killed, then it should be the job of the 2 defenders to collapse inwards to B Flag and defend it until the main contingent of defenders respawn and return. After that, the 2 defenders should slowly drop back to their original positions.
Thanks Crevena-Zastava.
