If you are struggling with Call of Duty to get more kills than deaths then you’ve come to the right place.
I’ll be trying my best to give you advice that’ll help you improve your game however I have a friend who has been playing for over 2 years and no matter how hard I try I cannot get them to improve their game. It may be a case of you’ve either got it or you don’t but we’ll see.
Firstly you are going to need a good class/loadout and that goes beyond the scope of this article. We covered class/loadouts in Best Modern Warfare 3 Online Class/Loadout pages, use the "Online Tips" menu above if you haven’t read those articles yet. I suggest you start there first.
Okay so now you’ve got yourself a good Class/loadout and still finding that your K/D ratio is poor. So maybe the way you play is what’s letting you down.
Awareness is the most important thing even more so than the class/loadout you are carrying. You must be aware at all times where your enemies are and protect yourself by moving cleverly.
For example you can’t protect your front, left, right, and back all together so keep an eye on your radar. You will often have a bundle of green arrows which is the safest area on the map. If the arrows are behind you then you don’t need to check that area much in most cases.
If you are moving towards an area which has no green arrows then this is a dangerous zone and you are likely to come into combat within the next 10-15 seconds. As you move forwards you need to be brushing against a wall on your right or left if possible. Sticking close to a wall or whatever object is available means you don’t need to worry much about that side of you. It also means you are most likely to be close to cover or escape if the situation requires it.
It’s important that you constantly think about where your opponent will be coming from and if there is a route you think they might travel and can surprise you from then drop a claymore there. That way you don’t need to be worry about getting flanked from that area and you can continue forward watching the other dangerous locations.
I move forward very quickly with my finger already on the aim button ready to bring my sight up as fast as possible.
If you are travelling towards the enemy and you notice gun fire on your radar and you think they are coming in my direction then drop to prone. Every player runs around with their target sitting at about chest height if they come round a corner and your prone they have to aim and adjust, whereas you’ll already be looking down your sight.
Being prone also gives you less recoil making you more accurate. But there are risks, firstly don’t lay too close to the location your expecting them to come as the closer they are the harder it is to aim.
Don’t stay here thinking this is a good target as the person(s) you just killed will assume you are camping there and their main priority when they respawn will be to return to this location and probably throw a semtex or grenade around the corner. Because you’ll be in prone it’ll take longer to get up and move. You are best taken down the expected targets and quickly advancing forward.
Don’t just point and shot all the time. Think about using your lethal, tactical and equipment these are all there for a reason. In fact all the worse players I know rarely or never use these.
You should be aiming to use them once in every 2 respawns at least. Let us go back to my example earlier to radars heading in your direction, rather than dropping prone you could throw a flash bang around the corner and take down your blinded targets.
Claymores help me gain 2-3 kills a game sometimes more, I just place these in locations I'm expecting enemy's to pass through that I don't have time to protect or I might use them to protect my back while I'm up a window shooting enemy's below.
As soon as you see enemy activity in a location but you don't have line of sight then you should be getting a grenade or semtex over there.
Your tactical depends on the game your playing but I tend to carry a decoy. With that I hide up and throw the decoy at a location I can watch. The opponent or opponets comes over and looks for me and my teammate (I throw 2 at the same time) and I ambush them for some easy kills.
Now I'm probably going to get hammered for suggesting it but there is a tactic that works and all good players hate it. It's called "noob tubing".
Basically make sure you have a grenade launcher attachment on your gun and use it at every opportunity outside. It'll kill your target almost instantly giving them no chance. Have a play with it on combat training to get use to killing from range.
Other then the stuff I've mentioned above your going to have to get use to moving and checking all unprotected directions. If you good at COD then you'll be checking your radar almost as much as you look at the screen. I am constantly glimpsing up at the radar to make sure I'm aware where all my players are and where my enemys might be.
If you are in a buidling and you look down a corridor (don't see an enemy), look up the window for 2-3 seconds, then check that corridor again. This is the sort of checking you need to be constantly doing and imagining that the second you looked away from that location an enemy has entered it. Otherwise you'll find you don't get as many kills and you get killed more often from behind resulting in a obvious lower K/D ratio.
You will notice many objects littered around the map that when you stand or crotch behind your head will just pop over. You need to use these objects where ever possible. It’s a lot harder for the opponent to shot only a head and this gives you the advantage as you’ll likely have their whole body to aim at.
Get use to where opponents appear from and as you approach this area have your target already on it. This means when an enemy comes round the corner you can bring up the sight fast and will likely not need to adjust it much as you already had your target ready in the danger zone.
One other thing to remember is you’ll need to play Modern Warfare 3 often to keep yourself use to the analog controls. Sometimes if I haven’t played for 2 weeks or more I struggle on my return to the game until 2-3 hours of play then I naturally hit my targets quickly and accurately.
