The Ultimate Assult Rifle Thread
Thanks for stopping by

This thread contains all the assult rifles from Modern Warfare 3 completely detailed with pictures, stats, attachments and proficiencies. Currently, the ACR 6.8 is the only weapon which has a video due to the restrictions set by the administrators here on NGU, which only allows for one video per thread. I will eventually find a way to work around this, but for now just watch the ACR video and tell me what you think.
That leads me on to my next point, feedback. This thread (believe it or not) took hours to complete, because I had to compile the data, get images and present it nicely in vBulliten. I would like to complete a guide for each of the Submachine Guns, Light Machine Guns, Sniper Rifles, Shotguns and the Riot Shield, but I want to gauge the reception of the Assault Rifles first. That's why I am requesting you leave some comments on what you think of this thread and if you would like to see the rest of the weapons. It is very time consuming and there is no point doing it if nobody is interested. Don't be afraid to tell me your opinion.
I have made every effort to ensure the technical details are correct, however, there may be mistakes or spelling errors. Please notify me via PM or just quote me and I will fix it.
The whole point of this thread is to benefit the community, so I hope you like it, and, enjoy!

Tips for using the M4A1:
The M4A1 is unlocked as soon as you gain acess to the Create-a-Class feature in MW3 (Level 4). The M4A1 has a fast fire-rate and moderately to low recoil. This weapon is suited for Close-Quater-Battle (CQB) because of the damage of its damage outputs: 3 hits at close range for a kill and 5 at long range. 5 succesful hits at long range can be difficult for those new to the Call of Duty, therefore the M4A1 will be best used in CQB situations. Due to the low recoil, Kick is not needed on this weapon. I would personally like to use the Attachments proficiency, and use a Red Dot + Supressor. The Red dot is useful for me because I find the iron-sights on the M4A1 hard to use and Red Dot solves this problem. The Supressor suits the CQB role, keeping me off the radar and able to maintain a low profile. Extended mags is a good choice if you like the Ironsights. For your third perk, I would advise the use of Stalker. It gives you the ability to strafe your oponents in thise tight CQB situations. The M4A1 is a great weapon to start off your prestige with, and it is great to be used throughout the whole way to Rank 80.

"The M16A4 fires highly accurate 3-round bursts for precision takedowns. Its semi-auto fire performs best in mid to long-range skirmishes where you have the time and space to carefully target enemies. A single burst kills if all three shots land, so it's best to attack from a stationary position to avoid straying off target."

Tips for using the M16A4:
The M16A4 has a tough time competing with the Type 95, but it can be a good choice of weapon in the hands of a skilled player. In close quater situations, the Type 95 is a better choice, due to the higher fire rate of the Type 95. But at long range, the M16A4 is the victor because the damage drop-off of the M16A4 is less drastic than the Type 95. Requiring 3 hits at close range, CQB is not a good idea for this weapon. I advise sticking to the outskirts of the map and picking off people that spawn and try to run to the center. Keep your back always to the border of the map, preventing you from ever being killed from behind. Assassin would be a great choice, couple that with a Claymore and Portable Radar and you have a perfect class for sitting back and picking people off from a distance. Avoid staying in the same spot for too long (aka camping) otherwise people will be annoyed and come back for revenge kills. If you don't move, they know exactly where you will be. Choose good attachments and this tactic will serve you well in many games modes, especially Search and Destory.

"Accurate, mobile, and among the highest damage dealing assault rifles, the SCAR-L competes for the top spot in aggressive, mid-range combat. Its low rate of fire helps conserve ammo through sustained bursts, but can cause problems in close range skirmishes against rapid-fire weapons."

Tips for using the SCAR-L:
The SCAR-L features good, unobstructed iron sights, making it easy to see targets at long range. Because of the lower damage output on the SCAR-L, you cannot kill with one body shot and one head shot. It must be two head-shots to get a Headshot Kill with this weapon. ACOG scope is not a bad choice for the Assault rifle. It allows you to take advantage of the SCAR-L's long range capability. The SCAR-L does not perform very well in CQB. The low damage means you have a large disadvantage against Submachine guns in close quater situations. Try to avoid getting into those types of Gunfights. A good profiency choice is Stability because the SCAR-L has a very large amount of idle sway and Stability counters that effectively.

Tips for using the CM901:
This is a weapon often overshadowed by the Assualt rifle heavyweights, but it is not to be judged by face value. The ironsights are relatively clear, so red dot optic is not needed. The high recoil on the CM901 means the Kick is a great choice for your proficiency. A silencer will not effect damage, so this will help you control your fire and keep on target. Short busts of rounds are advisable, holding down the trigger and emptying the magazine will not guarentee a kill with this weapon. It should be noted that the CM901 is at a slight disadvantage compared to other assault rifles in core gametypes. It is not an ideal weapon for a beginner. But in the hands of a seasoned pro, they will be confident with the right choice of proficiency and attachments.

Tips for the Type 95:
The Type 95 deals a large amount of damage at short ranges; only 2 bullets of the three round burst to kill. But it suffers severely at long range, taking up to 5 bullets to kill. When it was nerfed, it became the Assault Rifle with one of the worst hipfire spreads, so Steady Aim is a good choice of perk if you like to fire from the hip. Rapid Fire and a Red Dot Sight is the best combination of attachments in my opinion. The ironsights are average, I persoanlly don't really like them all that much. The Type 95 benefits from having Quickdraw selected as the second perk. The fatser aim time allows you to get on target quicker and land the burst right ono to the enemy.

Tips for using the G36C:
Its rate of fire is quite high, making it a good balance between close and medium-long range combat. Thanks to its high rate of fire, the G36C has an advantage over other assault rifles in CQB. Also, since it has a higher rate of fire than most assault rifles, and has higher damage/range than most SMGs, it is considered a "Hybrid" between the two. The weapon's iron sights are somewhat obstructive, making optical attachments a favorable option. I advise using Red Dot + Supressor on the G36C. It makes for the perfect all-rounder class.

Tips for using the ACR 6.8:
Arguably the best weapon in the game, the ACR 6.8 is a potent choice for those looking for a good combination of a long range wepaon that is capable of taking down enemies in medium and close range situations. The ACR 6.8 is suited to just about any play stlye; the jack-of-all-trades. I love this weapon with Scavenger, Hardline and Marksman with a Specialist setup. This allows me have enough ammo to stay alive for long periods of time, Hardline gets my specialist streak quicker and Marksman gives me the ability to pick people off at long range. Extended Mags and the Silencer is my favorite and I run them using the two Attachments proficiency. Once the Specialst Bonus is achieved, the ACR 6.8 becomes a monster. A great wepon, I recommend this weapon to any style of player.

Tips for using the MK14:
The MK14 has a low capped rate of fire, but it has high power, as it kills with two hits to the chest or one headshot at close range, and 3 shots to the body at long range. It has very controllable recoil, especially when equipped with Kick. The Rapid Fire attachment gives this weapon an added advantage, reducing the fire rate cap. The Mk14 would be difficult for a new player in CQB situations, but exactly what they need in long range battle. Equip with a silencer, and you can become a ghost in Free For All.

Tips for using the AK-47:
The Supressor is a very effective attachment for the AK-47. It will be easy to get three shot kills in close-medium range gunfights. The ACOG scope is not recommended as it increases vertical and horizontal recoil. The AK-47 has a lot of visual kick, so Red Dot sights provide good clear vision that can help with the weapon kick. Obviously the other way to counter wepaon kick is to use the Kick proficiency. The AK-47 is almost statistically equal to the CM901, but out in the battlefield, the AK-47 is a better choice.

Tips for using the FA
The FAD ties for the highest fire rate in the Assault Rifle category with the Type 95 at 1000 RPM. To balance this, Infinity Ward made each bullet not very damaging. 4 hits are required at close range for a kill. The recoil is low but still noticeable, so Kick can be a good choice of proficiency. The ironsights are not the standard you see in MW3, however they are still clear so alternate optics are not really required. Reload is slow on the FAD, so if you have an agressive playing style, Sleight of Hand may be a good first perk choice. Alternatively, you can take advantage of reload cancelling to shorten the overall reload time. Extended mags is a great choice on the FAD because you will not have to reload as often. The high fire rate gives the FAD the feeling of a Submachine gun, so Steady Aim is a great third perk to run on your FAD class. It is unlocked at Level 78 so you may only have a few levels to try it for if you plan on prestiging. Give it a go and you may find it's worth a prestige token to unlock early in the next prestige.
