These are just some general tips based on what i see bad snipers doing when i am spectating them in search and destroy.

Practice dragscoping, it is better than quickscoping. In terms of my definitions, quickscoping is lining up with your crosshairs, scoping in and then shooting. Dragscoping involves acquiring your target whilst scoping in / scoped in, very fast. It is not hardscoping, it is very fast and no breath is held. You can hit people from any range first time if you are good at dragscoping. This is because when you scope in, your crosshairs will be in a different place each time you do it, you could line someone up perfectly before scoping in, and miss, this effect is amplified by range. This won't happen if you can dragscope correctly because you are correcting this by dragging.

Ideally, when dragscoping a moving target, drag your scope in the opposite direction to that which they are running. Additionally, if you are waiting for a person to e.g run out of a corridor, pre-position your scope such that it can be dragged in the opposite direction to which they will be moving.

Aim to hit the upper chest/head area. You can practice this by using a silencer on your sniper: you will die if you don't hit these areas due to to getting a hitmarker and most likely losing the gun fight, so you can learn this way. It will make you more accurate in the long run.

Whilst moving, always keep your crosshairs at the height at which these areas would be if an enemy were to appear - then you must only adjust your scope in the horizontal plane to take your shot.

When you are in a sort of 1vs1 with another sniper across the map and you both have cover, you must outplay him so that it does not become a connection/reactions contest, you want as many variables in your favor. You should pop up so he knows your position, he is now scoped in at that position. Wait some seconds, move to the left or right a bit, and pop up in scope, and try and take the quickest shot at him you can: if you miss, it is no problem, remember his position with your scope while you move to the left or right again, and you can take him out when you come up again. I say this point - that you must adjust your position when it is a clipping contest - because i rarely see the people i am in this competition with do this, or anyone on my team do this. They get to cover, pop up in the same position and get shot.

Keep your movements unpredictable, do not take the most logical route throughout the map if you have been spotted. When running a route and you see someone on the corner of the screen, and you know they have seen you, don't react, just keep running for cover. Then take an unorthodox route round the map to reach them.

Dont rush your shot. Many people take many innacurate quickscopes, instead of making sure that they can hit the shot e.g. person is about to run around a corner, you had an awkard scope-in path to acquire your target making it likely you will miss the shot.

some S&d specific tips:

Always look at the minimap or start -> big map to be aware of where your teammates are.

Make a note of what guns everyone on the other team is using, this will be to your advantage. e.g you are last alive vs xxTryH4rdzXL3aderxX and you have noticed from looking at the killfeed he is using an mp7 (yes, he is obviously a noob but he is using the noob gun so its a perfect match). Keep to open, long rangeish areas of the map, so that you have the gun advantage when you encounter him.

When you know that a bomb is being sound-whore defended, i.e the bomb is planted and you need to defuse, but you cannot find the defender, fake defuse by tapping defuse, then cover the likely ways they can gain line of sight of the bomb, they will approach from here often rushed and not expecting a gun fight, but instead to shoot you in the back while you are defusing. You now have multiple advantages, can kill them and then defuse.

When in a 1v1 defuse situation, it is often helpful to throw grenades and fire unsilenced weapons near one entrance, and then loop round to the other entrance. People are stupid and fall for this.

When in a last man standing situation and the other team has a uav, your best hope is to make your movements erratic and hope to pick people off who blindly follow the last dots on the map. Red dots on minimaps are the same thing as dangling an mp7 in front of a bunch of noobs - they all run towards it.

Great Tutorial. +rep for effort.

1 thing to add though: drag scoping is helped with sticky aim function. (when scoped over enemy, aim sticks a bit)

Do you play on ps3 or xbox?
