Ok, I know everyone camping in a corner is popular, and almost intuitive. But I survived almost the entire 2nd wave of dogs alone (other three players died camped in a corner) using this strategy: RUN! Run far and fast. Then turn around and run back. Keep repeating, the dogs spawn further away. They aren't that fast, really, just seem like it when your sitting there. Oh and don't go in the swamp, you'll die. Betties help alot too, if you can setup a bunch that the zombies wont set off before the dog rounds.
More detail:
Get to an area or path where you can run pretty far, and have a gun that allows you to run fast, like sub machine gun. Split up into two groups, at either end of the path you are going to run. NOW RUN LIKE HELL!! The dogs will chase you, but have a hard time keeping up. Either get far away and turn around for an easy, straight shot. (Only choice if your by yourself) Or with the two groups running towards each other, each group can fire at the dog chasing the other group. (this is best and easiest once you understand it) It helps cuz the dogs usually surprise you, but if you have more warning and know where they are, they aren't so bad.
Its hard to explain. Basically, you make a dog chase you from behind, but your teammates are in front of you. Since you are running towards your teammates, and them towards you, your teammates can shoot at the dog chasing you. (And you at the dog chasing them).
Running back and forth also makes the dogs spawn in different spots, usually farther away, making things easier.
