Thompson up to round 10, then MG42/Browning and beyond round 30, who cares about racking up points? You should have everything you need by then.

I say upgraded flamethrower. I got 10k points in one round just sitting on the balcony in the back where the fence is around it. Just look down and they all run in a line towards the stairs.
