(adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({}); I have a Acer laptop with a single core 1.67 ghz processor 3gb ddr2 ram and a 120gb hdd. It has been struggling with the simplest of tasks lately. I've scanned it with various softwares for viruses and it doesn't have any. I really never changed anything to it except going back to Windows Vista because my Windows 7 beta ran out. I have the appearance set to optimal performance and it still freezes, lags, and gets really slow. I realize the processor is garbage but there's got to be a way I can get more out of this laptop. Also it shuts off a lot by itself I think due to overheating issues. Would this also slow it down? The overheating happens when it's on my lap as there's no table in my room. I looked for dust on the inside and cleaned what I could, although there wasn't much. Please help me out.

I know, it was like 300 bucks and my mom bought it for checking her email. I use it for other stuff like listening to music, instant messaging, watching videos etc. And it just isn't cutting it anymore. What do you mean to much memory? It's the ram it came with, so I don't think it's to much.

I have best solution for this problem.Hope this will helpful for you
Manage your startups. Your excess CPU usage is due to too many programs running in the background. You can cut these to barebones by alter your msconfig. Here is how:

1. Open your Start menu.
2. Click Run
3. In the command screen type "msconfig.exe"
4. In the "system configuration utility",click either "service" or "startup" tab
5. Uncheck all programs that your are no longer using.
6. Click "OK

Or you could make a backup for the files you want to keep and use the restore disk, to set every thing back to factory setting, this will DELETED every thing on your laptop.

The problem is this, you had windows Vista on the system, used windows 7, then deleted windows 7 to go back to windows Vista, you wil have reg problems as windows dose not like to clean it's self.

You can get software that will let you know how big your reg is, and some that will clean it also, this is somthing that can mess up your computer if not done right, but try CCleaner, this may help, and yes the Start up programs will need to be looked at as well, also deleteing tem internet files, defraging the HDD and so in if these do not work, restor the LapTop and start a fresh, I do this with the DeskTop and LapTop ever 6 months or so, it's just better for me to do it this way, and I have a back up and a back up of the 1st one, do dose not matter about saving every thing and the setup is ghosted as well meaning that it only takes about 1 hour for me.

these are just something you can be trying before buying a new laptop, but remember to back up every thing you want to keep as it will be lost, you can not hold me responcible for it going wrong and or any damage to your laptop.
