Post: Whats the point of a DOS/DDOS attack?

(adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({}); I know i might sound nooby and all, but im just curious. A DDOS/DOS attack just takes down a server/site/whatever for a given amount of time. Whats so cool about that?

Just curious. Quote me if you reply Smile

THANKS.

It disables the ability to do something about it.

Given that in a bigger perspective, say Country A wants to do something to Country B.

Simply attacking Country B head on can result in casualties right off the back. A DDoS attack can be seen as an emp. It cuts of/burdens Country B's ability to fight back.

La-mans' term, it's a +1 to get an advantage of the other party.

Just generally takes the site down for whatever reason they want :P
For example some servers such as Sony's playstation servers will be DDoS'd by Anonymous and they will be taken offline but because they will have a big botnet their servers could be down for quite a while because of the strength of the attack. :y:
