3.1GHz Quad-Core Intel Core i5
2560 x 1440 resolution
4GB (two 2GB) memory
1TB hard drive1
AMD Radeon HD 6970M with 1GB

Price: $1,898.87 (Final price, No tax)

I have been debating whether to purchase the highest end iMac. I have been a PC user for a good number of years now and I would just like to switch over to something different. I have tried an iMac out for myself, and personally I love the extremely nice display and user interface of Apple's OS. I would use this iMac for some gaming, web use, video and picture editing, watching Netflix, and some School-work. However there are some problems that I am having that is preventing me from finalizing my choice.

1) First off, the price.
I can afford to spend $2,000 on an iMac, but it will put a dent on my hard earned money saved up. I have almost come to an agreement to try to ask my parents if they will help me out with a loan.

2) The lifespan.
The reason I want the 27" iMac is so I will have the technology that will last 2-4 years down the road. Problem again is with the price, and I could save $300 going to the lower-end iMac. Another conflict; with that I really like the 1gb Vram and I would need that for future gaming, just light gaming though. I would hate to be stuck with 512mb.

The main issue here is the money, but on ebay I could sale it 2 years down the road and get 50-75% of what I paid back. It is still just a very hard choice. If I do decide to buy one, I can get it on Amazon for cheaper because Apple charges sales tax on their website.

I would just like some feedback, any kind will help and be greatly appreciated.

No, Macs are overpriced. My computer has better specs than that, and was only a bit over $1000.
If you want a Mac for the OS, you can just turn your computer into a Hackintosh, or Dual-Boot Win7 and Mac OSX.
Linux is better IMO though.

I have used Linux but I do not like it better than OSX, in fact Linux is on my other laptop. I'd rather use Windows 7 then Linux. Anyway, I was GREATLY considering buying a computer half the price. But I want a computer with a huge screen, like the iMac. The display on the iMac is worth $1000 alone, with 2560x1440 pixels, LED. Also, your $1000 dollar gaming machine wont hold up the resale value like an iMac will. I want something that I can constantly update, by reselling and buying new. And not being the computer wizzard, I wouldn't have time to learn how to replace the motherboard or GPU on my desktop.

So by the time I get the way I want my desktop, it'll be almost the same price.

Thank you so much for your feedback though, I really appreciate you helping me out.

Or, you could just buy a monitor separate and save even more on a computer. Such as buying a Vizio monitor or something. But, I guess my opinion is kind of biased because I don't really like Macs. So, if you have the money and that IS waht you want and you're sure about it, go for it. Who am I to tell you not to? :p

Yeah I gotcha on what you're saying. I'll just have to keep thinking about it

Have you owned an iMac that you've had a bad experience with or something?

Nope, I just realize the fact of the prices. I don't really care about it being "cooler" to have a Mac cause I usually run Linux anyway. I just like to get my money's worth on what I buy, and not pay more.

Yeah, that is the same thing my brother said when I talked to him about it. He is the computer expert. He recommended for me to go buy a custom built PC that had 2x the better specifications and twice as cheep, of course without including a monitor.

Yes, custom builds are the best option. As far as monitors go, I personally like using TVs for mine. I'm probably going to get this one and use it as a monitor. (26" 1080p) You must login or register to view this content.
The reason I like Vizio is because they give you a great price and they have wonderful products. You won't overpay for anything of theirs.

Save Point
Get what ever you want, in my opinion, Dell's are better for games, and Macs are better for the typical everyday task

Yeah, NO!

4GB RAM, 1GB Video Card for $1800.

I could buy a computer for $2000 with 12 GB DDr3 (1333MHZ) 3GB Video Card. Don't bother unless all you do is use the internet, then buy a Notebook <
