However, if you were to get a malware infection on the computer, the autorun functionality can be used inappropriately by the malware to automatically run and execute commands.

This tutorial is for intermediate Windows users.

Copy the following in to Notepad:

Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00

[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\Explorer]
"NoDriveTypeAutoRun"="FF"

Click File > Save as
Choose Save as type: All Files
Save the file to your Desktop as DisableAutorun.reg
Exit Notepad and double click on the file to run it. Choose Yes/Confirm any prompts, and reboot your computer to save the changes.

All values available:
FF - To disable AutoRun on all drives
20 - To disable AutoRun on CD-ROM drives
4 - To disable AutoRun on removable drives
8 - To disable AutoRun on fixed drives
10 - To disable AutoRun on network drives
