Webservers : A Basic introduction and Help.

Okay so now a days, Linux seems to be the most popular OS being used in servers, in terms of cloud servers.
There are many types of Linux Distributions (distro's) Some common ones are:
-Ubuntu
-CentOS
-Debian
-Redhat
-Gentoo

There are a load more that exist and are uncoverable.
I will show you some basic stuff that you can do if you are new to this OS or even new to any server.
So you probably purchased a server for a reason, cloud servers are mainly leased on purpose of Web aspects. (Web servers)

So if you are going to be using your server as a Webserver you would want to do the following proceedures.

First of all you will need an SSH client, which will connect to your server through an IP,(IPv4,5) address.
An SSH server is similar to command prompt or Terminal and will control your sever.
After you have been authenticated in SSH, you would want to install some shizz on your new server.
For webserver purposes these are the most needed programms/softwares.
-Apache ( A Must )
-PHP (also a must )
-SQL
-nginx
-Java

There are many more you would need but these are the basics.
You will then need to protect your sever with a firewall.
There are many types of firewalls that support different distro's so you will have to research that yourself.
There is also an option of iptables which is a very important stage.
Here is a tutorial on how to setup internal firewall/iptables in Debian: You must login or register to view this content.
As you have probably notied alot of web transferring is done through FTP (File Transfer Protocol) so i guess you want one. A free and easy source is VSFTPD : here is a tutorial on installing and configuring it for you.

Okay so now your nearly done with the basics but Oops, sometime you will get some Faggots Ddosing your servers through your IP. Hmmm well guess what I got just the solution for you.
DodDeflate, it isnt very effective but will do the job for the basics.
Here is a tutorial: You must login or register to view this content.

There are also options of installing web control panels:
One paid, successful, stable, user friendly and probably the most used Control panel is cPanel.
You can learn more here: You must login or register to view this content.

And if you are looking for a cheap one that would do the job for you then you can go with Kloxo, it is very good and considering its free its a great option.
