Too many honestly. Worst of all some branch from others to create their own messy code.
Last time I looked up how many were known to exist it was in the High 8000's... yep that's right.

actullay after reasearch there is 15687 languges unincluding ones that are no longer used E.G latian Greek e.t.c
but with thoese included there are 52576 languages ...

According to the BBC, there are around 7,000 languages.

Of which 2,200 can be found in Asia whilst only 260 in Europe.
