(adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({}); Hi

Today i accidently dropped my External HDD, on the floor. at the moment it was connected to my pc and it seems like nothing happend. After two hours i unplugged the HDD and i putted it away. Now 1 hour later i recconected it and it doesn't read it anymore :(. when i plug the HDD in the power outlet, it boots up, and i hear a little tikkin sound from the HDD. Then it just turns off and i don't hear anything, but the weird part my pc still says that the HDD is connected to the pc, but i can't acces it. any ways to solve this problem?? this is my external HDD You must login or register to view this content.

Did you restart your computer?
Did you turn off your computer and then plug the HDD back in and turn your PC back on?

Ticking noise probably indicates that the HDD is damaged.

Use a form of Linux to back up the drive. The ticks are indicating the bad sectors I believe. For some reason I have a failing HDD too and it works on linux, however when it's plugged into Windows it tells me that I must format it first.

Well you could always download a linux live CD for free. Linux is a free open source operating system. It's safe and secure, so you don't have to worry about those issues if they ever crossed your mind.

Just download Linux and run it in a VirtualBox. You can look up some guides on YouTube on how to do it.

Unfortunately there may not be another way to back up the files. Unless of course you get a program to create an iso of the HDD, which might not even work if it cannot access the HDD.
