(adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({}); Hi all.
I purchased a new laptop that has a screen issue for $50. The issue is that the screen displays everything (including boot) 6 times. This is an image I found on the internet, it has the same issue:
You must login or register to view this content.

I've narrowed it down to a hardware issue. I've reinstalled Windows 7 and all of the video drivers, and it didn't work. Oddly enough, when I was starting the Windows 7 reinstallation, it fixed temporarily, until it restarted again.

I've read online that the graphics card may be over heating, or may be in need of complete replacement. The laptop does heat up extremely fast (hot to the touch within 10-15 minutes.), so it may be a heating issue. I just shut it down a few moments ago, before writing this thread. Once it cools down a bit, I'm going to take it apart and see what I can find.

Just wondering if anyone else has ever had this issue and what/if they solved it? The laptop is an HP Pavillion DV2000.

Edit: I have also tried hooking it up through HDMI to a monitor. It does not display, which would indicate a bad graphics card OR a bad HDMI port on the laptop.

Edit again: Just started the laptop after it had cooled down to test the heat of the graphics card. The screen is back to normal. It appears as though it's definitely an overheating issue. Thermal paste inbound!

Edit: Took it apart, and surely enough there was no thermal compound at all on it. I'll have to buy some before I can fix it.

I had Windows 7 on it, there are other display ports but I don't have the plugs to connect them. Slow reply..I've been sick with a 101.7 (peak) temperature for the past 3 days. I took the laptop apart and checked out the GPU paste. It had a thermal pad instead of paste, so I tore it off and put a bunch of thermal paste on it to suffice for the height difference. It works fine now, no 6 screens Happy
