Are you using a pirate/blag copy of 8.1, or legit? I recently updated my PC to 8.1 and it's literally given me nothing but issues since day one of the upgrade.

Are you using a graphics card or integrated graphics? Try using the onboard graphics display port and boot again as this is sometimes the culprit with 'black screen' issues. I'd need more information to be able to help further, by update you mean a windows update for windows 8.1 or do you mean you've updated to windows 8.1 if so how did you go about this, thanks and I hope you resolve this soon!
