(adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({}); There are a lot of threads explaining how to download torrents, however there are a few things I think they are missing. In this thread I am going to explain:

1. Setting up UTorrent (The Torrent Client :derpSmile
2. Downloading a Torrent
3. Protecting Yourself From Bad IP's

A Definition of Torrents:

BitTorrent is a peer-to-peer file sharing protocol used for

distributing large amounts of data. BitTorrent is one of the most

common protocols for transferring large files, and it has been
estimated that it accounts for roughly 27–55% of all Internet

traffic (depending on geographical location) as of February
2009.[1]
Programmer Bram Cohen designed the protocol in April 2001 and

released a first implementation on July 2nd, 2001.[2] It is now

maintained by Cohen's company BitTorrent, Inc. There are

numerous BitTorrent clients available for a variety of computing
platforms.

A quick info spam from Wikipedia:
µTorrent (or uTorrent and commonly abbreviated as "µT"
or "uT") is a freeware, closed source BitTorrent client by
BitTorrent, Inc. It is available for Microsoft Windows and Mac OS
X. Both versions are written in C++.[9] It gets the "µ" in its name
from the SI prefix "micro" meaning one one-millionth and it refers
to the program's small footprint by using the UPX executable
compressor. The program is designed to use minimal computer
resources while offering functionality comparable to larger
BitTorrent clients such as Vuze or BitComet.
To get started in downloading torrents you need to download the client program, in this tutorial i will be using UTorrent. You can download UTorrent from here:
    https://www.utorrent.com/
Once you have installed UTorrent you will get a setup box like this:

You must login or register to view this content.

Just change the settings to suit your connection and save it.

2. Downloading The Torrent

You must login or register to view this content.Warning! Torrents can be illegal or full of viruses just like normal downloads, I am not responsible for any harm that may occur to you or your computer and/or your countries government kicking down your door. You must login or register to view this content.

In this tutorial I will be downloading the Iron Man 1 movie.

In order to download a torrent you will need to search for one on a website, the website I recommend is torrentz (links at the bottom) simply because it shows results from many websites (known as trackers) Winky Winky.

1. Search for your torrent on your preferred tracker:

You must login or register to view this content.

¹ This is the seeders, they are people that are sharing the file, usually the more the better.

2. Select the torrent and a list of download locations will appear, select one (I prefer the Pirate Bay(Oh and btw don't click the advertisements))and it will bring up a page with the requested torrent

3. On the download location simply click on download to download the torrent file. Please note this is not the actual file.

4. If Utorrent doesn't automatically open the file open it/set the file type to be run by utorrent.

5. A box will open allowing you to select the files you would like to download and other options, have a poke around or click ok.

Congratulations!, the torrent should now be downloading!

3. Protecting yourself Use a condom...

Even though torrents are a good way to download "stuff"Winky Winky there are quite a lot of viruses hidden away in some professional looking torrents, some trackers have a comment box for the torrent, if the torrent has a virus there is bound to be complaints.

Certain IP's are "sent in" to a torrent to perform acts against the Peer2Peer networks, the best way to protect yourself is to download peerguardian:

    https://phoenixlabs.org/pg2/
This downloads a list of bad IP's and blocks them from communicating with you. In the setup there will be an option to add and remove "lists", remove all the preexisting ones (they dont work) and add:

    https://list.iblocklist.com/?list=bt_level1
This list is updated regularly and should help protect you from anti-P2P networks.

Thank you for reading my guide, If you have any questions feel free to ask them, I may also update this later.

P.S If you find this guide helpful please thank and +rep, thnx
