So, my high school gives us netbooks. Dell Latitude 2110s. They kinda suck to be honest. And they really limited the version of Windows 7 on it, so I partitioned my hard drive and dual-booted with another copy of Windows 7. So I go on the one the school put on at school, and the one I installed at home.
I didn't really tell many people, except for one of my friends who I know didn't do anything. He somehow got caught for it today, and they confiscated his laptop and he might be facing a criminal charge. He said that they can somehow track if you're dual-booting 2 operating systems on these netbooks.
So is it true that they can track that if I don't get ratted on/caught using it at school (which I won't)?
Sure they can, anytime schools lend out computers they generally have some sort of administration tools on them. But since you are borrowing it you aren't allowed to alter configurations and what not. Read the school handbook for their computer use policy. If you really want to know for sure ask someone that is a higher up at the school or if your school has an IT department try asking them. Usually best to not mess around with anything that a school lends to you though, just leads to problems later down the road
