All About Linux!
This thread is going to help those new to linux decide as to what OS they want to use, how to install it and a few other things as well. It will also be updated whenever I think of something else to add, or I get a reccomendation from someone. For now, however, assuming you want to go ahead and install a linux OS, I'd head over to the next page of the thread to see a list of OS that you can choose from

Super-fast, easy to use and free, the Ubuntu operating system powers millions of desktops, netbooks and servers around the world. Ubuntu does everything you need it to. It'll work with your existing PC files, printers, cameras and MP3 players. And it comes with thousands of free apps. This is a very simple to use OS, and a great place to start off with for beginners.

Kubuntu

Kubuntu is an operating system built by a worldwide team of expert developers. It contains all the applications you need: a web browser, an office suite, media apps, an instant messaging client and many more. This is based off of Ubuntu, but uses the KDE desktop instead. I'm currently running Kubuntu, and it works amazing.

Linux Mint

The purpose of Linux Mint is to produce a modern, elegant and comfortable operating system which is both powerful and easy to use. Started in 2006, Linux Mint is now the 4th most widely used home operating system behind Microsoft Windows, Apple Mac OS and Canonical's Ubuntu. It's very similar to Kubuntu in terms of layout, but comes with an easy to use package installer that has over 65000 applications ready to download. I've always loved Linux Mint, and would pick it over almost any other OS.

openSUSE

openSUSE is a free and Linux-based operating system for your PC, Laptop or Server. You can surf the web, manage your e-mails and photos, do office work, play videos or music and have a lot of fun! I've never personally used openSUSE, but it looks very clean. When navigating to the download page, scroll down until you see You must login or register to view this content..

Fedora

Fedora is a fast, stable, and powerful operating system for everyday use built by a worldwide community of friends. It's completely free to use, study, and share. Very clean, plenty of apps. Can't go wrong with Fedora.

Puppy Linux

Puppy Linux enables you to save money while doing more work, even allowing you to do magic by recovering data from destroyed PCs or by removing malware from Windows. You don't even need to install it to your system, you can just run the liveCD any time you want to boot. It's one of the smallest distros out there (126MB), and can run entirely off of your RAM!

Slax

Slax is a modern, portable, small and fast Linux operating system with a modular approach and outstanding design. Despite its small size, Slax provides a wide collection of pre-installed software for daily use, including a well organized graphical user interface and useful recovery tools for system administrators. It's only 200MB!
