Okay first off, does your laptop stay on when it's plugged in? If so then the issue of it turning off so quickly when it's on the battery is most likely due to having a bad battery (you probably already knew that though).

Now for the system restore, the actual program opens but it's a just a blank screen? Sorry, I'm just trying to clarify what you're saying so I can help you out the best that I can. Smile

What I am getting is somehow the bad battery has caused the system restore to become corrupt.

All I got, would help if people gave more information, like you said.

Oh okay, then yeah that's probably the AC adapter. As for the program not showing up I know on my computer (Windows 7) it wasn't showing up so I went into services and saw that it was disabled...I re-enabled it and it started working just fine so that might be the case for you.

On Windows XP to open up your services follow this guide: You must login or register to view this content.

Then simply find the windows backup and restore service, the name should be pretty obvious and check to make sure it's enabled.

Then post back and let me know what your results are. Smile

To determine if its the ac adaptor, take the battery out and plug the laptop in, if it still shuts down, you know its the adapter.

So you fixed the power problem?

Are you sure you have system restore turned on from: You must login or register to view this content.

If it was turned off, you won't have any point to restore to anyways because Windows wasn't creating restore points. If this is the case then you cannot restore your computer unfortunately.

Although I suspect the above is void since you had already accessed system restore. But please do check.

At this point the only thing you can do is to re-install windows if you would want too, other than that you just have to live with what you've got. There could be a way to re-install system restore:

You must login or register to view this content.

^ PLEASE TRY THIS FIRST
