In my opinion, it is microsoft security essentials....It is free...It doesn't prompt me to give them money...Unlike mcafee, avg and others..

While free it does not offer a complete system scan of viruses. A good setup would be to use Windows defender, malwarebytes, adware, spybot, and clamwin.
Also using any other browser instead of IE will help keep vulnerabilities down to a minimum.

Windows Defender was included in Windows Vista, so unless your running XP or below you wouldn't need to download it.

Kaspersky with Malwarebytes.

Or Avast with Malwarebytes.

This is what I run on all my computers...

AVG, Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware, CCleaner, and I have the Microsoft Security Essentials installed through Windows Updates as a secondary to AVG.

MacAfee and Norton in my opinion don't catch much of anything that is out there and they are slow, as well as slow down the computer a lot.

Microsoft Security Essentials is the one I'm currently using, been through AVG and McAfee and I still think Microsoft Security Essentials is the best.

i totally agree here im totally happy with Kaspersky 5 yrs touch wood no virus or malware problems doesnt slow down my laptop very happy with it, ps: ive got the Pure version. unlike the crapness of Mcafee and Norton which are useless and dramatically slows down my system, in both cases i had to format my system because software couldnt do there jobs, to cut it short i would recommend Kaspersky Smile
