You can install the 1tb as a extra hard drive in the system and backup all the data onto it. Also you can use a backup program to setup the new hard drive as the primary boot. You must login or register to view this content. This article will help.

Windows is a pain about this, and I have no idea why. Good thing there are those who can fix such problems Smile

Free Download Magic Partition Manager freeware: EaseUS Partition Manager, Disk & Partition Copy and Partition Recovery Software. There are others, but this one should do.

ok i see how that program works however i still cant format/delete everything that is on the 1tb HDD now so its not letting me copy my 500gb untill that 1tb is empty.

Just to ask, for clarification purposes, you are the admin user of this account? You might have to right click and run as admin to get it to work. Will check other options

Easeus is the best. Others require a reboot
If you want dl this You must login or register to view this content.
Burn it to a cd, and reboot from it. Remove the primary hard drive first, then set the 1tb as prim. Us eactive kill disc under wipe hardrive. You can also partition the drive using this.

Cool, if the easeus doesn't try the UBCD prog, it will do the trick.

i still can't wipe the hard drive. EaseUS doesn't have an option to just wipe an HDD.

That is one stubborn hard drive. Have you tried the UBCD yet, windows might be blocking you from doing anything with it. UBCD can wipe the hard drive from boot, and it has a cool GUI.
