(adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({}); My Laptop recently broke so I thought I could take out the HDD before I threw it away and put it back in my desktop computer. It connects(SATA) and everything works, but after a while it suddenly tells me that the USB 3.0 ports draw to much electricity and is disabled to prevent damage. It's just a regular WD 500GB HDD.

Any idea why?

It shouldn't be affecting you're USB ports,Do you have anything plugged into the USB 3.0 ports?
Also what are your specs and what is the wattage of you're power supply unit?

Try plugging it in to another computer. I have seen instances like this where the HDD is starting to become slightly defective. Check using another cable as well.

Your USB port could be damaged as well. Take a little light and look at the pins. Are any of them bent? Missing? Out of place?

Pins in the hub or the connector that goes to the motherboard?

I'm gonna try and use another SATA cable, and hook it back up. Let's see how this goes.

EDIT: I've connected the HDD again, and as of now everything works perfect. I have my external HDD connected through USB 3.0 and also that seem to be working so far. I will let it stay on for a little, and see if anything changes.
