Recently I came across two 2 WD 250g hard drives. One is a blue Scorpio and the other a black Scorpio. I believe the black is 7200rpm. I installed the blue Scorpio on a PS3 with current OFW 4.31. The Playstation is a fat 40g model. I installed the fw update via usb stick, failed on install, tried again and completed the install. The problem being is that the transfer time and the XMB are laggy. My movies stop about 3 minutes into them. To copy a movie from external hard drive to PS3 hard drive, the time it takes increased by atleast 3 times the copy speed of the 40gig. I am wondering is there a way to tell if the hard drive is faulty or should I just format the hard drive and re-install the update.

My second part of this is: The other Western Digital hard drive is currently in a laptop. I put a fresh version of Windows on there. Windows installed and works. (Using the laptop now to write this) My question would be is one of them better than the other? Should I run the blue in the laptop and the black in the PS3? Do they both suck and I am better off running factory 40gig and continue using my external hard drive? Kinda the, if it's not broken don't fix it theory. As there was nothing wrong with the 40gig hard drive, I just picked these up the other day for almost a penny per gig.

Is there a way to copy the Windows that I am using onto an external hard drive? I don't know if just doing a system backup if enough. So, If I put this hard drive in the PS3 and it is still slow as the other 250g, I can easily return it to an updated Windows without having to put a fresh copy on?

Thanks in advance to anyone who can help!

Try performing a full format on the drive within the PS3.
P.S. "Full Format" not Quick.
