bomb your hardrive and re install windows and you should be good
Sure that would work but its overkill. I recommend fist getting a decent antivirus. I recommend something like comodo.
Next I would suggest doing this;
Start -> Run -> msconfig -> startup tab.
It's extremely common for rats to use that for computer startup.
From there, uncheck anything suspicious then follow the location as to where it is and delete it.
If you can't find them simply unchecking the box and restarting is a temporary fix.
Continuing on, check the services tab too (click the hide all microsoft services and uncheck anything you dont use/is suspicious)
If you're confused there are many guides on youtube.
(Random one I found
)
Finally if you want to, you can completely wipe your temp folder as that is often used as well. To do this simply open cmd as admin and use this.

Well it may work for you but not for him. Regardless, the true importance of an anti-virus has been falling. You can get by pretty decently without one if you know what you're doing and download trusted reliable and keep your computer and programs up-to-date (non-pirated, signed programs) things. I use comodo simply for the fact that it comes with network monitors, a much more advanced task manager, and it tells me what any application is doing rather then just sitting and scanning for virus signatures or something.
