Microsoft Security Essentials and MalwareBytes. Get them both - they're both free and also much better than a lot of other anti-virus programs which you have to buy.

I use AVAST! and I have never had a virus. It has Web security and internal security meaning if I get a pop-up, it will block it if it has a virus and gets an update once a day to keep up with any new problems/viruses. For example, it updated twice today without it getting in my way since you can switch it to gaming mode and you will get no pop-ups like McAfee does and forces you to have to click it and update it then make you restart your computer. I've used it for over 3 years now.
