I also want some input on good video editing software, ive tried getting after effects before but failed. I might try again if yall think its one of the better editing programs.

I recommend using Fraps or Camtasia but the software isn't free.
The best free recording software is Ezvid or Camstudio.

You're on a laptop so your quality will most likely be hardware limited.

The two obvious choices are Fraps which is demanding of the video card and Dxtory which is demanding of the hard drive.

Should I wait to get a desktop?

In a word, yes.

If you have a budget I can give you a build that'll record 30FPS gameplay @ 1920x1080 with Dxtory.

I dont need gameplay, just for tutorials on my computer. Im not all that amazing of a player/modder in any game.
