Samsung buying AMD rumour

According to the newest rumour Samsung is looking to merge AMD into Samsung chip subsidiary. Move is help the company take on Intel along with Qualcomm.
So why does Samsung want the company the reason is due to intellectual property owned by AMD. AMD merger with ATi means the company owns backlog of graphics IP given Samsung ongoing battle with Nvidia this may be useful.

AMD is world leader when it comes to CPU/GPU products. One of AMDs success stories is GPU's sharing the same chip as CPU's.
Back in 2007 Samsung spoke about the idea saying it needed to be open it when it come to options.

One major roadblock which is a cross-licensing agreement with Intel and AMD.
Intel grants AMD the x86 license.
AMD grants Intel x86 64bit license.

Chipset semiconductor market is hyper competitive with margins suffering in the desktop sector to mobile. Intel has been suffering along with AMD. The move would make AMD more competitive cutting costs investment into research would allow the company to take on Intel at the higher end.

Could be nothing !

AMD Radeon 300

Not much is going to change with launch of 300 series with new architecture saved for the high end cards lower end ones being re branded models. 380/90x is set to be using some form of new architecture but no details.
What we do know according to some beta drivers lower end cards minor changes so no major jumps in performance.

AMD Freesync displays far cheaper compared to Gsync displays with average being $200.

Intel news!
Q2 2015 CPU refresh intel is going to be releasing two Broadwell processors, the Core i7-5775C and Core i5-5675C.
Chips are going to be 14nm based with Z97 boards being able to use the new chips.
The Core i7-5775C runs at 3.3GHz base with 3.7GHz turbo frequency, and it supports eight threads through Hyper-Threading. With support for four threads, the Core i5-5675C runs at 3.1GHz base with 3.6GHz turbo frequency.

Next architecture is coming end of the year Skylake. Intel have stated they want to improve performance on mini PCs and all in one.
