Common terminal commands if you dont have an installer made for your distro.(run with su, or sudo):

bash ______.sh
chmod 777 file
chmod 777 -R folder
chmod +x file-name (usually: .run, .bin)
./filename
java -jar file.jar

Always update your repository via terminal before doing anything and after installing

sudo apt-get update (Ubuntu)
sudo pacman -Syyu (Arch)
etc...
