Again, I'm going to spoil the movie to an extent, so If you plan on seeing this movie and don't want to know what happens, don't read this.
Ok so saturday night I went and saw Quarantine. After sitting through a ridiculous kid rock feat. dale earnhardt jr. propaganda music video about the army, it finally started.
Immediately off the bat I realized this movie was going to annoy me. It's exactly the same style of filming equal to The Blair Witch Project and the newer film Cloverfield. So expect a lot of camera movement. I did acutally notice people leaving the theater during this film as well.
The movie starts off with some dumb reporter chick who is filming a special with the Los Angeles Fire Department. Basically the first 15-20 minutes of the film is them asking firefighters some questions, some sexual humor, yadda yadda yadda, boring. FINALLY an emergency call comes in that her and her camera man get to ride along on. So the entire event is captured on this camera, that you are watching. Yes, it's bad.
So at this point in the movie I'm basically asleep but, this is where it gets interesting.
The come to a building and the call is about a woman who has barricaded herself in her apartment and is screaming. They go in and it turns out, she's a lot more fckin crazy than they expected. Violence ensues. Her condition is that of one of the zombies from 28 Days Later. I mean, exactly like one. She bites people and they bite people and so on and so on...
Now throughout the film they never really make it clear as to what type of virus it is that's causing people to turn into raging flesh eating monsters that have a RIDICULOUS scream. However, whatever it is, is enough to have the CDC quarantine the entire building sealing everyone inside.
There's a lot of suspenseful moments, which had some scariness to it I'll admit. For the most part it's a lot, and I mean a LOT of attacks from NO where and then the camera goes haywire and you just don't see a fckin thing, which I hated. I guess it was a good shocker film, scare your girlfriend easily, but overall not really worth the 20 bucks I shelled out for 2 tickets.
I'm all for zombie movies, and this one had a good twist to it. Including the fact that they get sealed into the place of attack, it made for a good story. The only problem is that it was poorly written and lacked any sense of shock-reality. I couldn't stand the camera movement all the time. Definitely wait for dvd.
Overall: I give this movie a D
