David Beckham out till 2011 game due to injury
David Beckham’s injury is worse than first thought the England star has revealed.
David Beckham was originally ruled out for six months of competitive football following his Achilles injury which occurred in March but the recovery appears to be taking longer than expected, says Beckham speaking in New York.
“It’s frustrating. It’s obviously disappointing because I’ve been working for the last couple of years to get into the English squad to make the World Cup and then something like this happens.
“It’s life, it happens, I move on. It gives me time to spend with my family and that’s the silver lining,” reveals Beckham.
David Beckham is currently out of professional sport due to an injured Achilles tendon, the Los Angeles Galaxy, AC Milan and England playmaker sustaining his injury playing for his Milan side in the Italian Premier League last month.
The latest injury news update on his Achilles condition means Beckham will now not feature in Major League Soccer in the US this season, unless LA Galaxy reach the play offs.
David Beckham is now targeting a November return from the Achilles injury that disrupted his dream of appearing in a fourth World Cup final as a player.
David Beckham was speaking on the popular Good Morning America TV show in New York, where the star discussed the injury in detail for the first time, including his initial shock.
“It was like being hit by a hockey puck, he says.
“I thought someone was behind me and had kicked me. I looked around, obviously there was no-one there.
“And then I saw my foot. It was just hanging. And then I felt down there and there was a hole and I knew straight away what I’d done.”
Beckham also revealed that he is expected to return to play football in November but he will have to take it easy just to reach that goal.
“My mentality is to kind of push it and get moving and running as soon as possible but it’s an injury that has to take time to heal.”
The David Beckham injury history record is not the worst in football however his age now at 34, suggests it will take him longer to recover from such injuries compared to younger professional players.
The Achilles injury is a relatively serious injury although a common one amongst sports folk.
The Achilles tendon is a large, strong band of tissue connecting the calf muscles at the back of the lower leg to bone in the heel of the foot.
Although strong it is the most frequently ruptured tendon in the body with runners and jumpers particularly vulnerable to Achilles injuries.
Overuse of the Achilles or starting sport too quickly without warming up sufficiently or a big increase in training creates greater risk of rupture, which in Beckham’s situation the latter may be partly to blame, although his age will have exacerbated the likelihood of injury, due to his involvement in professional sport for many years.
A snapping tendon creates sudden sharp pain.
The good news for David Beckham is that his dream of going to the World Cup in South Africa is not completely over.
He may be seen at the 2010 World Cup finals, as a coaching assistant on the England bench.
England’s 2018 World Cup bid team and FIFA are thought to be enthusiastic about seeing the injured star involved in the South Africa finals this summer.
