Montreal Canadiens goalie, Jaroslav Halak has been traded to the St.Louis Blues.
Halak made his name made in the 2010 NHL Playoffs with his steller play, being the main reason for the elimination of the Presidents trophy winner, Washington, and the 2009 Stanley Cup Champion, Pittsburgh.
Montreal GM says that with the July coming close, and Halak being a Un-restricted free agent coming July 1st, they had to make a quick choice with Carey Price, and Halak. In the end they thought that since Price still has a year left on his contract, that he could carry the team next year.
For the past 3 years Halak has been in a dispute for Starting goalie for Montreal Canadians, 2 Years with Cristobal Huet, and a year with Carey Price.
St.Louis in turn traded 2 prospects, Lars Eller, who played in the AHL St.Louis farm team the previous 3 years, and Ian Shultz, who has no major team experience. Neither player has played in an NHL game.
St.Louis despretley needed a goalie, after 2 shakey seasons from former starting goalie, Chris Mason. "Jaroslav's play in this year's regular season and Stanley Cup playoffs was remarkable," Blues president John Davidson said in a statement. "He has had very impressive numbers in the NHL and we are thrilled that he will be wearing the Bluenote for us."
I think Montreal just ruined they're chances at a repeat season in the run for the cup. They would not have made it that far with Carey Price in net, and I think in turn St.Louis may be a playoff worthy team in the coming years.
