Watching the video in the regular YouTube size seems like the video quality is decent, and you can seem almost every detail that your audience would need to see.
Your question was if it was good enough to get you a lot of subscribers. It would depend what you would class as 'a lot'. I would say that if you have around 5,000 subscribers - getting more would most likely need a HD-PVR.
If you plan on uploading your videos to Machinima, you will also need a HD-PVR as that is the minimum they will accept. The quality is reduced when you send the video to them as it has to be re-encoded and decoded a few times in the process.
For now however, I think that will do the job well if paired with commentaries or if used in montages.
