Post: What Moderators Like to See in Users
07-13-2010, 05:03 PM #1
The Low Key OG
still the same OG, but I've been low key
(adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({}); I questioned each of NGU's fantastic moderators. I asked them what they love to see in users. This could be their favorite and least favorite things, from traits to activity to helpfulness. These are direct quotes from them, so read them, learn from them, and see what you're doing right and wrong in order to become a better member. Here we go:

Being a helpful and selfless member of the community, someone who tries their hardest to help others with no thought for reward.

I like a member who is always friendly, active in Forum Help and in the Shoutbox and trustworthy. Also, a member with good grammar is a :y: Those are some traits and characteristics that I look for in a member.

A member who reports a post/thread, rather then complaining about it in that thread. Also, someone who is overall a nice helpful person in the shoutbox. OH, and a member who loves everybody.
Everybody love everybody!.

There are many things, but I would say the tops are helping other members, being the bigger man i.e arguments, not begging for rep vbux or otherwise.

A great member, to me, is someone that comes on here for the benefit of themselves and the forums alike. Someone who does their best to keep the forums clean, without being a backseat moderator. Someone who helps others and stays above the trolls of the community. I like someone who can tell a joke, and that knows when to stop when something isn't going their way. Dedication, respect, maturity, and the ability to take responsibility for one's own actions.

I like members who are very mature and very friendly. Also, I love it when members use perfect grammar.

I like a member who has great personality, is very friendly to deal with and also some one that you can trust. I always like to see member's reporting posts instead of back seat moderating or even starting a argument with that member. It is always good to help other's out when they are in need of help or even the site out. Remember guy's to use great grammar so other's will understand you. Other then that remember, Everybody Love Everybody!

I like a member who can take jokes and have a bit of a laugh in the Shoutbox, but knows when to draw the line. Also I like a member who posts informative threads and is known never to scam, beg and flame other users. I also like members who don't think they are better than someone else just because they are premium.
Now we can all love each other =D

Members who help moderators do their jobs, by reporting threads, enforcing the rules across the forums and helping other members when a mod might not be around. They are friendly to all members, and have good grammar. Last but not least, they have a good personality and get along with all members.

1.Members who are selfless and are willing to help other people without wanting something in return (rep, vbux, recognition, etc.)

2.Members who treat everyone the same. Premiums/non-premiums. High rep/Low rep. Whatever Cool Man (aka Tustin)

I like the users who could care less about rep, rather making a post for the community. Things like' "+REP, THANK, NOM CUZ I HALPED" in peoples' posts and sigs drive me crazy. Also, I appreciate it when someone avoids trolls and trolling, not being a sheep, and following the "big dogs" by being original.

I just love it when a user;

  • Has good grammar
  • is Helpful to other members
  • reports lots of threads (with good reasoning of course)
  • Watches out while moderators are not online
  • is friendly to users all around
  • has decent knowledge at the least, and follows them

When a user has any (I prefer all) of those traits, they defonitely contrast from the average member, and better the community which I love.

What I like to see from members (What I appreciate most):

  • The ability to listen, learn and articulate themselves in a professional and casual way.
  • The ability to laugh when they or I make a mistake in either our comments or actions.
  • The ability for them along with me to go with the flow, take things in stride.
  • The understanding that reputation here is not everything. Rep goes hand-in-hand with helpful, useful and funny threads/posts.

And what I really like about every member here, is that they are here, at NGU being part of this wonderful community.

well I would like to add what I like from members but it would be a copy of what most of you guys have said lol. So ill just put what i don't like Winky Winky.

personally, I don't mind how there grammar is, i mean my grammar is far from perfect, but obviously talking "LIEK This CaUse ii Likee 1337" isn't going to make us (mods) mod like you.

another thing has got to be asking for rep, I personally hate anyone asking for rep, when someone says in SB "I'm 10 rep away from star", I don't mind that as everyone has done it, but when people post "+rep and Thank me if I helped!" in EVERY post that's annoying.

last thing me/other mods hate is, Posting "Dezired" threads, what I mean by this is; Posting stupid/pointless/bullshit/spam threads and expecting to gain rep and "E-Fame" for it, claiming whatever you posted in the thread works and making extra accounts just to post on the thread saying it does work.

Don't do these 3 things and I shall love you long time  <3

I like people who put effort into the forums and really try hard to help other members and even go out their way to find something for someone else, for example if someone asks how to do such and such, instead of saying "look in the ___ section", they go and find a link for them.

I also like people who donate to the site for someone deserving. I'm really not a big fan of people who hold raffles for people who really don't deserve premium just for the rep and vbux. It should be done to help the site not for benefit!

I like it when users go out of their way to help others and not ask for anything in return.

I like users who can have a laugh and a joke, but know when to stop.

I like users who have good grammar, it doesn't have to be perfect, but it's nice.

I like users who don’t troll or get involved with trolls.

I like it when user report posts instead of posting "Mod's close" on a thread.

I don't like users who put things along the lines of "This took me ages, please +rep and thanks" at the end of their posts or in their signatures.

Things I like to see from members
  • People who don't ask for rep or thanks, whether it's the shoutbox or on the forums.
  • Members that use good grammar, shoutbox is fine to not have amazing grammar tho
  • Members that help others out no matter what color their name is
  • Users that don't beg mods to stick, or put something in the notice everyday
  • People that report posts
  • Members that follow all the rules

I like a member with good grammar and anyone who uses a variety of lexicon. I respect mature members with life stories, whether they be comical or serious. I look for selfless users that go the extra mile to help others, and those who you can simply have a regular conversation with, while having a good laugh. I also appreciate those who I can ask a favor from, and those who seek no reward from the effort they put into helping around the forum.

I like a member who knows how to follow the important rules, but doesn't have to be so uptight. Someone who acts like a moderator in the shoutbox and says no spamming to someone who accidentally double posts is no chill person, and I like chill people. However, the funny guy in the shoutbox who spams a bunch of smileys because it would make the conversation better is always a friend to me. I like chill people, act like your with your friends, because we are just like 'em.

I love what NP said just then. There's times to be serious and there's times to have a laugh.

At the end of the day, as long as you're mature, dedicated and show you're eager to help (That's eager, not humping my leg), then there's a good chance you will get noticed.

If you don't get noticed, don't worry either. You don't always get in on your first go. I didn't even get a reply on my first one!

Maturity is my biggest thing. I absolutely hate people who sign up just to spam here or try and leech shit they usually don't understand. I am a laid back guy, so the whole thing Carling said +1 from me. I like members who actually work to earn things, like making great threads that earn them rep, or whatever it may be to add content to this website. I also hate people who are not loyal to this site. Why not shout out this website any chance you get? I see guys who won't even put a link in their youtube description, let alone an edited clip advertising us. That pisses me off bad.

In short, just good people. You can tell if someone is good people after about a 5 minute conversation. Funny, intelligent and hard working is what I'm after...

Well, seeming as most of us are actually new mods, we would have been like this before we got staff, so I'm not going to give a lecture, as if I actually know anything =D

Personally, I like to see people who don't take things too serious. People who report a lot (it helps us out), people who are nice to others, always willing to help and give sacrifices to ensure other members have a positive experience here. I like people that can also have a good conversation, with not any 'over the top' ass licking.

That's my personal view Cool Man (aka Tustin)

There you have it, some really powerful information. Yes, some of it was repeated, that just shows the stress on certain ideas. If 5 moderators all came up with the same idea, then obviously it is an important one. Thank you for your time and I hope you enjoyed this.

Note: Fletcher is on vacation I believe so we will be awaiting his response.

Ouch that hurt my feelings!!

Oh no forget it, I was replying to the wrong post.

They have refused his Assent to Laws, the most wholesome and necessary for the public good.
They have forbidden their members to pass Laws of immediate and pressing importance, unless suspended in their operation till their Assent should be obtained; and when so suspended, they have utterly neglected to attend to them.
They have refused to pass other Laws for the accommodation of large districts of members, unless those members would relinquish the right of Representation in the Legislature, a right inestimable to them and formidable to admins only.
They have called together legislative bodies at places unusual, uncomfortable, and distant from the depository of their public Records, for the sole purpose of fatiguing them into compliance with their measures.
They have dissolved Representative Houses repeatedly, for opposing with manly firmness their invasions on the rights of the members.
They have refused for a long time, after such disolutions, to cause others to be elected; whereby the Legislative powers, incapable of Annihilation, have returned to the Members at large for their exercise; the Forums remaining in the mean time exposed to all the dangers of invasion from without, and convulsions within.
They have endeavoured to prevent the population of these Forums; for that purpose obstructing the Laws for Naturalization of Noobs; refusing to pass others to encourage their migrations hither, and raising the conditions of new Appropriations of Threads.
They have obstructed the Administration of Justice, by refusing their Assent to Laws for establishing Judiciary powers.
They have made Judges dependent on their Will alone, for the tenure of our offices, and the amount and payment of our salaries.
They have erected a multitude of New Offices, and sent hither swarms of Officers to harrass our members, and eat out their substance.

They have combined with others to subject us to a jurisdiction foreign to our constitution, and unacknowledged by our laws; giving their Assent to their Acts of pretended Legislation:

For protecting them, by a mock Trial, from punishment for any Infractions which they should commit on the Inhabitants of these Forums:
For cutting off our Trade with all parts of the internet:
For imposing Donations on us without our Consent:
For depriving us in many cases, of the benefits of Trial by Jury:
For transporting us beyond Seas to be tried for pretended offences
For abolishing the free System of English Laws in a neighbouring Forum, establishing therein an Arbitrary government, and enlarging its Boundaries so as to render it at once an example and fit instrument for introducing the same absolute rule into these Forums:
For taking away our Threads, abolishing our most valuable Laws, and altering fundamentally the Forms of our Governments:
For suspending our own Legislatures, and declaring themselves invested with power to legislate for us in all cases whatsoever.
They have abdicated Government here, by declaring us out of their Protection and waging War against us.
They have plundered our seas, ravaged our Coasts, burnt our towns, and destroyed the lives of our people.
They are at this time transporting large Armies of foreign Mercenaries to compleat the works of death, desolation and tyranny, already begun with circumstances of Cruelty & perfidy scarcely paralleled in the most barbarous ages, and totally unworthy the Head of a civilized community.
They have constrained our fellow Members taken Captive on the high Seas to bear Arms against their Website, to become the executioners of their friends and Brethren, or to fall themselves by their Hands.
They have excited domestic insurrections amongst us, and has endeavoured to bring on the inhabitants of our frontiers, the merciless Indian Savages, whose known rule of warfare, is an undistinguished destruction of all ages, sexes and conditions.
In every stage of these Oppressions We have Petitioned for Redress in the most humble terms: Our repeated Petitions have been answered only by repeated injury. A Prince whose character is thus marked by every act which may define an Admin, is unfit to be the ruler of a free members.
