[multipage=Introduction]
On December 28th, 2009 a tragic event occurred. James Owen Sullivan, aka The Reverend Tholomew Plague, often shortened to The Rev, died due to a combination of OxyContin, Valium, and alcohol. It was a tragic event, and the bandmates decided to make a tribute album to their great bandmate. This album would be called Nightmare, and it receives a rating of 9.5/10.
[multipage=Nightmare, Welcome To The Family]
Nightmare-10/10
The intro to the album is awfully a lot like Critical Acclaim, but that's not necessarily a bad thing. It starts with a dark, brooding intro but immediately jumps into raging guitars and drums. It sounds like your normal A7X song with a really catchy chorus. Overall, it's a great song.

Welcome To The Family-10/10
Another great Avenged song with probably one of the catchiest choruses in the band's history. There's nothing bad I have to say about the song. If there's going to be a song you like, it's probably going to be this song.
[multipage=Danger Line, Buried Alive]
Danger Line-9/10
Danger Line is definitely one of those songs with the intense guitars of Synyster Gates and Zacky Vengeance and the fast-paced drum beats of The Rev's hero, Mike Portnoy of the Prog-Rock band Dream Theater. Definitely has that City of Evil feel to it.

Buried Alive-10/10
Described by M. Shadows, the lead singer, as being the Stairway to Heaven, there's no better description. The song starts off slow and progresses into a fast, great song. Definitely starts off with the feel of just one man singing and playing guitar. With two different choruses, this song is definitely a must listen.
[multipage=Natural Born Killer, So Far Away]
Natural Born Killer-9/10
This song feels like it's lacking in some areas. With a strong intro, you will expect Waking the Fallen or Sounding the Seventh Trumpet vocals, but you get their modern vocals instead. It definitely reminds you of classic Sevenfold with the guitars and drums, but it's hard knowing that it's not the same drummer.

So Far Away-9.5/10
A great song that was completely written by Synyster Gates. It's Syn's first attempt at writing all the lyrics for a song, and it's great. Papa Gates also makes a guest guitar appearance on this extremely meaningful song.
[multipage=God Hates Us, Victim]
God Hates Us-10/10
A great song, starting off as a love for God for bringing them The Rev, but evolves into a song about God hating them, therefore he took away their precious Rev and creating a total nightmare for the band. Shadows definitely tries to do his best screams on this song as well as clean vocals.

Victim-9.5/10
Definitely a lighter feel in this song with the feel of Seize the Day definitely mixed in there. More about how the death of The Rev just doesn't seem real, it's a great song that I really like.
[multipage=Tonight The World Dies, Fiction, Save Me]
Tonight The World Dies-10/10
A much darker song, really referring to the night The Rev died. Papa Gates does the guitar solo on this song, and it's really impressive. Overall, another good song.

Fiction-10/10
I almost had to rate this song 10/10 because it was the last song The Rev did for the band. No guitars, just Shadows and The Rev singing, with the amazing piano and drums skills of The Rev as the only instruments.

Save Me-10/10
Easily the longest song by the band, it is also one of the greatest. The band's love for The Rev really shows in this song, including the line "Tonight, we all die young." which more or less means that when The Rev died, they all died a little inside.
[multipage=Closing and possibility of The Rev's return]
As the last album involving The Rev, there's almost no possibility of Avenged Sevenfold making another album. The Rev cannot be replaced, since he was with basically a brother to the others for a long time. However, there's also a possibility of The Rev's death being all a plan to get the band more album sales. Three days before The Rev's alleged death, he had finished a song for his solo project called "Death". Seems like an odd coincidence. If you also look back to the album before Nightmare, Avenged's self titled album, you will notice that several songs reference death and dying, which could have been a setup for the hardcore fans. Lastly, The Rev once was quoted as saying that one day he'd run off to a forest and when he'd come back, he'd be the knife master. He said that he wouldn't return to the band for 10 years. So, will The Rev return in about 10 years, or am I just rambling on about a dead man? You decide.

Love this album. Jimmy would be proud. Also, as far as I know, the vocals at the beginning and end of Victim are preformed by Johnny Christ. That's what the guys said last night on their live Ustream.

My favorite songs would have to be God Hates Us (incredible homage to their early days), Save Me (pretty much sums up their emotions about Jimmy's passing), Victim (very dark, emotional song, amazing guitar solo), and Fiction (speaks for itself).

Nice review.
